thats the thing, in his review clarkson said the sat nav wouldn't shut up. it can't give you directions if you don't tell it where you want to go!

and as my bro inlaw often reminds me... mr clarkson said 220bhp was the max for front wheel drive...... hmmmm:think:

somone forgot to tell the tuners.

Wow i'm amazed that a BMW M5 beat you. Can't imagine that. Despite all popular believe the LC(R) isn't the quickest thing on the road.

Yes it will beat scoobies with similar BHP and outrun boxsters but we're talking about an engine with 400bhp everyday or 507bhp with that button pressed.

It is frigging quick and imo not got the same appeal as the last gen M5.

However it does lower comparitive torque than the old V8 and as such in real life a decent V8 might just have the v10 version i.e. planting your foot to overtake real world.

When the e60 M5 was released BMW magazine did a review of e60 m5 vs e39 Alpina M5 (bored V8 with 450BHP) and they preferred the e39 as an everyday driver but admitted that V10 was an amazing engine (which it is)

Thats the older one. Nice and torque rich.

Hate BMW Drivers especially last gen 3 series and the new ones as they usually are *insert expletive* but the last gen M5 is a BMW I could get away with!

i like that.
also like the thought of a V10 Tourag too and a new S8 W12

dreamland tho.... lucky lotto pending.

1830 kg isnt light tho is it.

But 500bhp isn't anything to sneeze at either. Should try to find some Power To Weight ratios for a stock LCR and stock M5 (no point comparing modded one and stock other)

V10 bi turbo diesel in the back on a beeza would be one hell of a project :D

The other car i'd like to try is the bi-turbo v8 TDI in an A6....

was that the same 4.2motor clerkson drove to scotland and back on one tank of fuel in an a8 last year?

like that too.

It might well have been you know. When Evo test drove it in an a8 they said they have never felt such pull to a limiter before and the ease with which it travesed speed ranges was awesome. That is a real world machine with real world power for real world roads....

one day
V8 TDi 4.2 A8
Tourag is nice tow car @ V10 tastic... would'nt know there was an ibiza & trailer on the back at all.

dreaming again  :(

no mate not comparing it to anything and not knocking m5s. ive played with a few and wondered why at 400bhp they dont get the edge speedwise on my 320 bhp leon. 80bhp more i would have thought would be enough.

doubt any ive played with have pushed the button... 500bhp would surely leave me standing.

id have personally thought at 400bhp they would have mad esome sort of impression....but i dont know your car so i cant really say. You have to be on a motorway dual carriage way to get the full power of the car, the SMG gearbox does help quick gear changes though.

The M button, puts the vehicle into a BMW setting, which disables the traction control and changes the gear setting etc aswell as putting up the power. It is possible to be running 500bhp on many different settings (not necessarily with the M button pressed), so its possible that 2 M5's could be running with different gear setting therefore causing a difference in speed.

They are a clever bit of kit, and are quick cars, but there is quicker out there with less bhp. they proved that when they compared the M6, 911 and aston martin i think it was...the 911 was quicker on the twisties..they wondered where the BMW was putting its power!!

500hp from an M5 - VS - 400HP Leon ... For example....... The M5 Would still dismantle you. Anyone who say's different, is talking absolute rubbish. I suppose all the Leon's can cope and outrun Ferrari's too...

Ridiculous, I can't believe statement's like that were made!!!!!

Let's not forget that the M5 is a good 500KG heavier than the M5! That's like putting a Mini on your roof and expecting the same performance.

Granted the M5 has far superior traction, but if you're comparing a 320bhp Leon to a 400bhp M5 when already on the move, it might not be as night-and-day as you think.

But then your comparing a car that has alot of engine work against a car thats only running at 80% capacity...

If your going to compare cars compare stock to stock i.e. stock LCR vs stock CTR or stock LCR vs Stock M3. There is no point comparing them when they have been modified as there are so many factors that make a difference.

I get that the LCR is a quick car at stock and rempped but at the end of the day it is a fwd car which do struggle with traction and your putting alot of stress on a system has to power and steer. Its a great car and i'd love to own one but its not the bee all and end all of the car world.

There are better and faster cars out there and unfortunately I think some people on here don't think that.

At the end of the day what would you rather drive if you had the cash...a modded LCR or a M5?

108k is nothing to those cars. Just like a VAG diesel its just ran in

It'll easily double that and prob still be worth a fair bit of money. The V8 noise it makes is just awesome!

My dad had a last of the shark nose 528i and sold it at 140k to someone he worked with for good money. At 150k he had the head off at his garage and belts etc done and garage said the boreliners and stuff still looked like new. Think he sold it when it had 280k on the clock!

You're missing the point. Nobody started this thread to compare a stock LCR to a stock M5. And nobody so far has done that, nobody is saying the LCR is in the same league in any way.

But somebody with a modified Leon made a comment about their cars performance Vs the M5's performance when in 'normal' mode and comments followed based on that. THAT is what I was referring to. NOBODY made any comments about stock LCR's being a match for an M5.
