im the same, in the real world ive never really noticed any difference of having the air con on or not (never used the rear screen thing). But the theory is correct that more load = more fuel used but in a diesel it seems marginal, petrols seem to be more effected.

I got a good question if you can understand me?!?!(i don't have trip)

I have read that the lower the rpms on the tdi's doesnt mean the better the mpg or whatever....

Q. Is this true should I be aiming high up the rev range than 2k?

I noticed that I been driving round the 2500-3000 and have managed a better tank full But it has been warmer recently and all the variables it probably don't matter.. just wanted to ask a trip user.....

Have also heard this, read that some people find better MPG at ~2600RPM?? would interesting to know if any Toledo owners with trip comp's can shed light on best instantaneous MPG Vs RPM?

This can be true.

When I had my Ibiza, I found that unless at motorway speeds I'd be better cruising in 5th than 6th. If you drive so the revs are quite low and the engine is off boost, not only is it not running at best efficiency, but whenever you accelerate, the engine has to overfuel slightly to get the turbo spinning up.

However there are plenty of other factors that affect things, the main one being driving style. Good forward anticipation and concentration gives a noticeable improvement - go on an IAM or RoSPA course to sharpen up ;)

Are these IAM, RoSPA courses free? if not I wont be doing them anytime soon.....

Just did a ECU reset got some crap out the air box and drove at the speed limit as fast i could :)

My ibiza shows on the trip that below about 45 - 50mph 5th gear is better. However, once above 1500 rpm the fuel consumption is better the lower the revs. If that makes sense? In other words the nearer to 1500 rpm in the bigger gears illustrates the best economy. Whether it is or not is another matter. :)

The IAM sessions are free, just have to pay for a test (mine was around £40 IIRC). Have a look for your local group on the website and give them a call.

I got 14.8MPG at Santa Pod last year... Not bad for either flooring it or waiting in a queue all day!

Its always funny to see as your nailing it up the strip your MPG is going up :D

I think its obvious that you could probably obtain a mpg of less than 15 over a 1 mile commute. The best way to measure it would be over a tank.

My range is 42mpg worst, 49mpg best (lately due to the weather).
