The PD170 has a bigger turbo, bigger injectors and a completely different ECU by a different manufacturer among other things.

PD140 turbo is a GT1749V
PD170 turbo is a GT1749VM
So they are the same size.

Injectors are a different design with the PD170 having new piezo cystal injectors with six injection holes where as the PD 140 are none piezo cystal design with five injection holes. The PD170 injecttors are not bigger but more efficent in how they work.

ECU is different because you have different sensors on the car for thing like a stupid DPF that the EDC 16 ECU on the PD140 where not desighed for.

If the only difference you say is of efficiency, then where does the extra 30hp come from? Its there before and after mapping. Even with the DPF.
The chaps at Revo say its because the turbo is bigger, and the injectors do flow more fuel. There is no other explanation. More fuel and air means more power.

more power means more soot then? quicker clogging DPF, if it cant burn it off then problems would occur? i am no expert just going by what i have read.

I agree. If you do mostly short journeys with lots of stop/starts, you are pushing the DPF limits already; so an ecu upgrade will probably push it over the edge and cause you problems.
Whereas motorway drivers will burn off the excess soot.

when i was getting my suspension fitted the guy was telling me the exhausts can glow red with the heat, he has cancelled his audi 170tdi that was on order, thinks vag have made a mistake with the 170tdi engines.

Unfortunately, the law states that all new diesels have to have a DPF.
I actually like mine, keep the chrome tail pipe clean, it looks like a petrol car from the back, even under acceleration. Its the main reason I bought this car, but then I mainly drive on the motorway.

What .?????

First i've heard of it, not to mention the only car in the seat range with a dpf is the 170 and they have at least 3 other diesel's in the range which are non-dpf !

The extra power is mostly from a more efficent burn but they do flow more diesel as well so i was wrong in what i typed due to the fact of having more holes then the PD140 injectors. The turbo is not bigger though so if the guy at Revo told you that until i get shown proof otherwise he is wrong and i have the part numbers to prove it.

Turbo Part number OEM part number
GT1749V 724930-0008 03G 253 014H PD140
GTB1749VM 757042-0010 03G 257 019 PD170

The PD170 engine is also less fuel efficent then the earlier PD140 model.

Personally i am not that keen on the PD170 engine as you are starting to get in petrol mpg territory with couple thousand higher price tag and dearer fuel and insurance getting nearly as dear as driving a petrol then you have the dreaded DPF that tells you how to drive the car :wtf: .

hi all, have been reading all this, & i can say that i,m running the superchips remap on my 04 leon cupra tdi 150.
i have never had a problem with it at all, ( no clutch slip ) & i got a 12mths warrenty with mine. had the remap on for 10 mths now, & i have had 2 rr days & both where within a cats whiskas away, but 197 bhp was the top.

i would reccomend them.

But the issue here is the particulate filter which could block up which is specific to the PD170. The old 1.9s didn't have this, and neither does the 2.0 PD140 hecne why you're remap has been fine. :)
