Something is eating my wheels?

Took my wheels off the other day as I always have to do to clean them because there stupid, white and have lots of spokes.

As I am cleaning the insides of them I notice this:

What is happening to my wheels?

Owned them for about 12-14mths, always cleaned them with muc-off wheel cleaner and nothing else.

The problem is widespread on the backs of my front wheels, asin behind the spokes. There are also litle individual patches developing on the inside surface. On the rears there is very minimal of it. I can't understand why it has all of a sudden occurin in the last 3/4 weeks since I last took them off and cleaned them. My stupid new estate hasn't been tarmac'd any more then usual and the only thing I can put it down too is the possible stupid amount of salt on the roads. But then wouldn't it be eating the fronts 2?

What can anyone suggest?

p.s. all those little black bits are tar. Given up on the amount of times the stupid road workers have put tarmac on my estate, get tired of cleaning it off!

But on a more serious note, you have to admit that that 17" white SuperT's are pretty damn tasty

But on an even more serious note, is that brown stuff just on top of the surface, or is it actually eaten into the alloy and its the corroded alloy showing?? I could be where the "muck off" collects up, but doesnt get washed off.

but muc off isn't an acid based cleaner. Its alkoline. Rinse my wheels off well front and back. Seems to be coming from under the paint if that makes sense?

Brake dust on/under the laquer. Same sort of thing happens to the white ronals.

i use to have white wheels on my swift gti(check thread what u think of old skool in pictures)and i use to use deb jizer on them and they use to come up like brand new and never harmed the paint in anyway.u mite want to give that a try.

Brake dust on/under the laquer. Same sort of thing happens to the white ronals.

But it happening all of a sudden recently? Sure it would of been progressive

if its only just happened u must have got sumyhing on them to make it go like it.
just a thought,ur not leeking a small amount of break fluid from callipers anywhere so it is mixing the paint with dirt if u know wat i mean?

if they are feeling greesy then check ur cv boots and that just in case they are split and chucking grees everywhere.

checked the cv boots and they were fine. That was my first thoughts

well go with the brake fluid and see if its leeking or not.

i had all that pooh stuff on mine n it was tar of the road

think it may be salt dude, my auntie had a cheap hyundi (or something) and the road salt seemed to rot the alloy wheels
something to do with the mixture of metal in the wheels themselves reacting to the salt

just an idea tho

so is it a case of letting nature take its course and cleaning them as best I can and then refurbing them once it gets beyond a point of fedupness with the wheels for lookin like that?

And possibly learning to not just clean them next time but to protect them with some coating of some cleaning stuff?

id contact OZ themselves mate, it may not be their fault, but u clean them all the time, not had them a great deal of time and give them photo evidence of how sh1t their wheels react to british roads..

u never know what could happen, ul find most companies dont like being bad-mouthed by previous customers, just say ul go out your way to deter people buying there products, they dont like that...this is how i got a brand new laptop

shall pop down to the shop where I got my wheels from and see if they have a contact. But if I was to get a replacement set I would sell them and put it towards some non multispokes like Speedline Chrono's
