Has anyone done this? After a meeting with a tree in January...the repair garage put a left hand drive tail light assembly on the drivers side.

see here for pics:

I thought this was cool with the two white lenses and just fitted a red bulb instead of the original fog light bulb. The car was due it's MOT recently and i was told it was illegal. Is this correct? Long story short I shouted at the garage until they gave me a new rear light and paid for my MOT. I've got the symmetrical ones back on now though!
Just wanted to see if anyone knows the real answer!

Chris

This has been done, but most people get rid of the clear white reverse light in order to pull it off.

It's not a mod i'd ever have thought of doing but since i got the LHD unit for free i might as well keep it. TBH i never even noticed it after i got the car back..it was CHR15B who pointed it out to me at a meet!

Ya, not many people notice them, other than when u reverse and they tell you, that your car has a break light out! Thats funny!

I changed my reverse light to the lhd one so it was red, and no, that isnt illegal, as technically you dont need a reverse light

Yep, as Triple D says, it isn't illegal. Reverse lamps aren't legally required, so they're not tested at MOT.

I started the craze for this a few years ago when I had my PD130...it looks really good but you get a lot of hassle from other drivers!

Your staking claim to this mod then, a :p

I want purchase dates of the rear lamp then please, with photo with time stamps aswell :D

lol, only kiddin' !!

As Triple D almost told us off before we said anything, doing it our way (Sorry I mean Tom's way!) its not ilegal, just erm stupid and dangerous!

why stupid and dangerous? i never had any trouble with mine, from other drivers  if i did id tell them :birdy:

I bought my rear lamp before the FR was even released, so there :p

As for stupid and dangerous, I think a blown headlamp bulb is a more serious safety concern than a red reverse lamp!

Yes it is, and you see alot more of them about than you do red reverse lights, but guys they are white for a reason :p

Its stupid as the only reason we do it is to make the car look better from the back, and dangerous as other plebs on the road wont see a red reverse light, they will just see a brake (whilst moaning you have a blown brake light for the otherside)

Ive still done it tho!

Oh and fair enough then Tom.... hehe!

I think that ditching the fog is the best option to be honest for two reasons.

1. The two white bits break the lens up from being all red.
2. I only use the fog at the most twice a year, I use the reverse daily!

:)

on the clear style fr/cupra reverse lamp turned red would look best and on the other models with red background two white lamps would look better :)

use 2 red lensed lights

wire up the fogs as brakes

wire up the brakes as fogs

connect the rev light supply to a flasher unit that flashes the fogs or hazards

:):)

mine runs two clear ones...i think it makes the car look more balanced.
