yeah deffo, swap your fronts to the backs. Once the back ones are off ditch the unrepaireable one and if your spare is new buy another tyre of exactly the same brand and pop them on the front. The other tyre which has minimal tyre tread left then can be used as a spare to tie you over. Any good?

Should always have good grip tyres on the rear, unless you're superb at controlling arse-end slides. On FWD cars, your arse slides out under adverse conditions like too-quick going round a corner.

You can easily regain control in a front spin by just turning the wheel but the rears are a different story. Never be fooled into thinking grip on the driving wheels is more important than grip on the rears!!

I've only ever had over steer on a FWD car.

Yup, the better tyres should always be put on the back. You have control over the front of the car (steering wheel, brakes, throttle etc) so you can correct it should it step out of line. But if the rear end steps out for any reason, it's much harder to correct.

Wouldn't recommend it :D Be prepared to turn into the lift-off, i.e. towards a hedge while accelerating to gain traction again.. and oh, don't do it if you're on a narrow road.

In fact, don't do it at all :p It's aint good... ESP and TCS are designed for this reason, among others :)

Don't think I've got ESP in my Tdi Cupra.

It's a new car (to me anyway it's actually an 04) and I was reading about the different tyres, mine are Dunlop SP Sport Maxx. Can only find 2 rating sites but it got pretty good comments from all bar one person.

Think I'll save for some GS3s though in the future.
