Please do not take this the wrong way, as I'm really not a boy racer but just thought it might be of some interest to some of you, if not can a mod please delete.

Was travelling on a "private road" at well within the speed limt when a Corrado VR6 came and sat about a foot from my rear bumper, when the outside lane cleared i selected 4th and put my foot down, at say 70, moved past the car infront and then moved into the middle lane.

At the exact point the corrado was level my speedo was showing 130. Point being that although the Corrado was clearly quicker, I thought my little Ibiza 16v done quite well considering.

After that I slowed down as the point had been proven and we were approaching traffic, where I seen perhaps the worst bit of driving by the Corrado driver, cutting accross all three lanes of motorway to undertake a number of cars at speeds probably in excess of 120+..........very silly.

Bit of a pointless thread really, but just thought I'd share it.

S'pose.

Not really into racing on the road, but decided to see how badly I would get beat, a I'm considering a Corrado next.

Plus The old girl is getting on a bit now so I've got to show her a bit of mechanical sympathy!

Got 143k on the clock?? 20k+ of it including track and 'Ring.

Valvers love it all day long. They say a good valver only gets run in at 125k!! :funk:

Keep it well serviced and it loves it. :bleh:

143K? Not bad going.

Mine ticked onto 80k this weekend, bought it on 71k with full service history, I've been changing the oil and filter every 3k.

I've owned a few VW 16V lumps in the past and they've all like a drop of oil, but this one doesn't use a drop, does yours?

Hopefully that should mean theres plenty of life left in her yet!!!

Only uses a little bit every so often, nothing to worry about in my eyes.

They are brilliant engines, i say you cant beat a good valver personally!

Cant be doing to bad on 143k miles, did 186bhp the other week on the rollers!

Mileage on valvers isn't really a concern where engines are concerned as they dont come alive 4000rpm and they love a good revving. The gearbox however is another story  Mines on 113k now and it goes like a bomb still.

I wouldnt have thought there would be much in it between a VR6 Corrado and a 16v MK2. I myself am considering buying a VR6 corrado next though, as a package they take some beating and they look spot on.

Well I had a little play with a VR6 golf the other day and TBH I got raped by the VR. I mean I had some fun with some MG ZS/ZR's and it was always close, but the VR had me good. But not sure if it was standard as I saw a stainless exhaust system and he was leaving me for dust  not sure about the engine mods.

Corrados are not cheap anymore, especially if you are looking for a well loved one

they have gained a cult status now which has held if not pushed up the prices

I have seen some Corrados in mint condition go for 6k - GASP!

Yeah, they are getting more and more expensive now. They are becoming the next mk1 Golf, as trying to get a good condition one of those (and not a soft top) is a bloody nightmare. These days, even if you want to get a standard, good condition GTI 16v mk2 golf, its going to cost you more then a mk3. Hoping the same will happen to mk2 Ibiza's :D

It's interesting actually, as my friend has a MK3 Ibiza cupra, and they are pretty rare cars to see on the road (use to own one myself)

i think these could definitely gain cult status with their classic 1.8T engines and the looks as standard are truly great

for me the next cult old skool hot hatch for sure

and as you said, the 16v ibiza MK2 GTI's, pretty rare as well perhaps

The reason why the MK2 Ibiza GTI is loved is because its a better looking cheaper alternative to the MK3 Golf GTI. However if prices start to gain strength people may not want to buy the MK2. Also due to sheer numbers of MK2 Ibiza's being available it will be a long time before they become a rareity.

Not saying this because i have one but i think the Cordoba Coupe is more likely to become the collectors item due to fewer numbers of them initially and they are generally higher spec than the Ibiza.

mk2 16v ibiza's are already rare as rocking horse ****. When you go onto autotrader you can only find as many valvers as you can mk1 golfs

That's not necessarily a good thing. How many FSO Polonez cars do you see on Autotrader lol

IMO no current or past Seat is ever going to become a classic because whilst they are good and competent in their class none are head and shoulders class leaders. None are 'ground-breaking' in any sense and none of them significantly moved the game further on.
