My wipers are p*ssin me off!

Everytime i use them they are streaky, and leave a white residue on the windscreen.

They are only about 2-3 months old!

I tried washing them when i last washed my car but it made no difference!

Any ideas for a solution gratefully received.

Maybe some kind of vinegar that isn't malt vinegar? White wine vinegar? I don't know. Windowlene had vinegar in it and that didn't smell too chipshop-esque.

It was also an effective wasp destroyer. Wasps are evil.

I bet it's grease from the roads... we've not had much rain and I bet there's still a bunch of salt and stuff from when they were gritting a while ago.

Maybe washing up liquid? That might work (if you apply it carefully) - though I wouldn't recommend it if you've spent time waxing your car... washing up liquid in that case would not be good at all.

But wiping your wiper blades with vinegar would be a good start - even if you did use chip shop vinegar the smell shouldn't linger too long I wouldn't have thought.

I find them a bit crap and mine are a month old, hardly used. They can't clean the bugs off at all.. The rain does a better job. I haven't changed the cleaning fluid yet though, but doubt that would help much.

What are you cleaning your car with? and what washer additive are you using?

I'm on my second set of blades now, after changing them at 1 year old (and approx 40000 miles) and are just as good as the first ones were when new.

I think its turtlewax, wash and wax in one stuff.

I had the same problem and tried out Rainex, haven't had a prob since, i got it from Costco but other folks i have told have bought it from Halfrauds.
also good at dispersing rain.

My tank curently has a mixture of both

seems pretty poor yes.

Yeah so does mine. I'd siphon it out if I could be bothered, but I can't. I'd just sit there with my hand on the washer squirty lever thing (what are those things called anyway? oh yeah, stalks.), but the washer pump would probably burn out.

Rain-X and regularly clean your wiper blades in hotish soapy water. Removes the grease and crud and keeps them in tip top condition. I do this regularly (at least every 3 weeks for a wiper clean and Rain-X every 6-8 weeks) and never get streaking, shuddering or crap.

I also wipe the blade it self in Rain-X to keep the crud from sticking to the rubber.

The genuine washer fluid from any vw/seat dealer (it has all the brands on the bottle audi etc.) is very good is only about £3 and recomended for the fan jet system our cars have

If you use vinegar then make sure it is white vinegar. It is an old wives tale that vinegar and newspaper works but that was in the days when vinegar was pure and the newspaper used printers ink - the stuff that left marks on your fingers.
Brown vinegar now has a caramel additive which can leave a slightly sticky residue.
White vinegar and a cheap newspaper works.
Boring or what................................
