hey all,living near luton (yay) and just joined this site as i've got the opportunity to buy a good condition 1.8 16v gti from my cousins husband.currently gotta corsa sport 1.6 atm and was originally saving up for a ibiza cupra (mk3) but this deal came up thats pretty good.

Just wondered what the 1.8 gti's are like to live with?fast (would want it to be noticeably quicker than my corsa)?any issues?reliable etc.
looked at 0-60 times and says its 8.6, 130bhp?any info would be much appreciated!sorry for the essay

Pretty rare cars really. Should be alot quicker than your corsa. How many miles has it done?

yee i can't find much information on the 1.8 models!its the really nice deep purple colour,another seemingly rare point lol.

done just under 80k i think,been really well looked after,my uncle had it before my cousins husband and they have both taken good care of it.

no pics yet,hopefully going to see the car soon though so i'll try get some then,whats insurance like on these btw?any idea?

these purple ones are rite commen.. jenk haha... corsa to ibiza thats a wicked move now you dont get classified as a chav everytime to pop to maccy D's for a happy meal... id expect it to be noticable quicker than the corsa. mines a 2L valver as many are and they certainly do fly

as long as insurance is not much more than my corsa should def be getting it,look forward to driving something that doesn't understeer in the slightest bend lol.

know of any decent places to get parts for the mk2?looked around a few places online and not many sites cater for it realy.would like to get hold of some facelift parts as the one i'm looking at is 96 which i think is pre,so probably doesn't look great atm lol.

jenks is the 2L 8v, purple low and slow ... 96 i think its going to be face lift.. as for performance engine/parts .. search for vw stuff.. being a vw polo with a vw golf engine .. if you scroll down the page of sub forums on here there are deals to be had.. check out badger bill and awsome Gti

well the 2L 16v that i have is the ABF engine out of the mk3 Golf, i dont know if your engine the 1.8 is also out of the mk3 Golf, there doesnt seem to be many 1.8 valvers around.. i know the mk2 Golf was a 1.8 16v.. KR engine code i think? The polo is known as 6N cant remember what mk that would be

popular mods include:

280mm front brake set up.. yours may be standard 280mm it is on the 2L 16v, or you may have 256mm .
exhaust S/S catback goes without saying.. the 20vt exhaust is a straight fit and has a nice looking back box a reducer maybe req but not a big thing.
20vt alloys is what jenk has, again straight fit
Spacing out the rear wheels as the track is 30mm wider at the front.. i think this is because of Golf front , polo rear?
Polo Rear door handles get ride of the barells so give a delocked looked.

the seats are a polo fitment, these mite be the same as the golf. there was an ibiza with golf vr6 leather interior but there wasnt any info to weather it had to have the frames changed or if they just drop straight in.. i reckon your going to learn how to use the SEARCH function on this forum it really does work

mines 800ish 2yearsNCB and ive just gone 21.. but then i did have 2 accidents in my younger niave days so that doesnt help, having a valver also doesnt help
