I've just fitted an oil temp gauge to my Ibiza, but think the sender is getting too much airflow as I've fitted it where the pressure sensor is. What's a normal temp for the 130/160TDI?
My remapped 130 Ibiza generally sat at 90º during normal day-to-day driving, IE same as water temp.
But you'll find that oil temp takes quite a long time to reach operating temp compared to the water.
But during hard runs it could break 100º; and once on a several mile stretch of uphill autoroute in France, fully loaded up at 100mph+, ambient temps around 30º, oil temp started creeping up to around 115-120º...needless to say I let it idle for a good few minutes before switching off when I pulled into a service area !
I've got my oil temp sender bolted firmly into the sump. This does mean it reads a little lower than the highest point during it's journey around the engine/turbo. I tend to see mid 70s on light cruises, 80 degrees on slightly faster runs, and last night I had it to 90 degrees on a fast motorway uphill run.
What gauge are you using? I got quite a tasty SPA gauge so I can monitor coolant and oil temps on the same 52mm pod.
Oil does take a long time to warm up too. I noticed this as I used to think it was safe to use more throttle when the coolant needle started lifting off the bottom. Then I found out the coolant is actually only about 40 degrees at this point, and oil still down at around 25 degrees. Now I usually wait for the oil to reach 40 degrees. The car feels a bit more eager to move when the oil reaches this temp.
In the sump? Sometimes it can be upwards of 15 minutes - usually depends on how progressive I'm being. On my 40mph dawdle commute, it can take quite some time.
