MP3 in FR

Just picked up my new FR today So far so good.

Now what I want is all my MP3s in the car and I wanted some suggestions on the best way to go about that.

In my LCR I had a Dension head unit which was great, all my mp3's at my finger tips with id tag info display So far the best option I can see is buying the Seat IPod kit, oh and new Ipod! This still only gives me very basic controls and no display bit of a step backwards if you ask me

So any other suggestions of the best way to get mp3 into the car?

I just burn them to CD and use the MP3 playback option. Fine for me and still get a good few albums/tracks on standard 80 minute CD's.

I think your right about the ipod link, don't really get much control you might as well spend a tenner on a lead for the aux port.

Slightly OT, but have you seen this thread? Any experience/advice RE tags?

This is what I use:

I'm finding quite a lot of mp3s I download (say from itunes) or rip from cds and get the info from cddb (or freedb) seem to come with only the v2.3 id3 info... If you just open up your music folder with this mp3tag app it scans them all automatically when you point it at whichever folder you want (can do it recursively - so for example you could use f:\music and it'll grab the info from all the mp3 files in that folder and subfolders) and off it goes.

If there are tags missing but the filename is say 02-The_Prodigy-The_Fat_Of_The_Land-Breathe.mp3 you can easily plonk the info into the relevant fields in the tag just from the filename with a few clicks.

Also, if you don't have the v1 info, but DO have the v2.3 (or whatever v2.x) info, just highlight the relevant files in the list and click save, and it will copy the v2.3 info into v1. Dead easy!

Hmm so no then, nothing as good as the old Dension unit :-(

The Alpine is ok but still needs an Ipod and therefore not so good whilst driving! CD's are rubbish in comparison to a 40Gb hdd with all my music in one place.

I was under the impression that the Alpine can play audio DVDs, which somewhat improves the capacity of a 'single disc'.

The iPod is fully searchable/controllable from the head unit.

That makes it a more attractive option. I was looking for this detail to be confirmed to make it an viable alternative to my old Dension.

So are all the iPod functions controlable from the head unit?
