I changed my whole engine & gearbox in a day, but it's not fired yet - so bank on it taking longer (or have a back up plan, 2nd car, bike)

rocket_ronnie : yeh thought about an LSD to, just to get the power down better

f2_stu: yeh they're gna fab up the parts while i'm driving the car, and then fit them all in one go, i'm gna leave the charger with him to make the mounting brakcets, he'll measure up in one visit, and then fit on another, he did his in 3 day trips, cos he needed it as a daily

wont they need the car for a set time to measure/fabricate and ensure the parts fit, otherwise how can they make the parts to fit if they dont have the actual car to hand?

this guy nando, said when i drop off the charger, he'll take out my a/c pump and then measure up the mounts etc, he's pretty quick from what i've heard and i've seen his work it's faultless

fair play then mate, was just talking from personal experience, although the guy i experienced was a complete cowboy!!

yeh nando is trying to get up a really good reputation of doing this to valvers, both his and georges (the other s/c valver) are really good, no running probs at all and his has been running over a year now

I think the market is at a point now, where valvers are very cheap and there is alot of them about, so getting the right reputation now will pull in good business

especially from the golf boys.

yer, well with him now having done a mk2, and mk1 golf, he wanted to do something that no-one else had, he had a seat before and wanted to do it to his own, but he sold it, so i asked and he said yeh :D

yeh i want a proper sleeper, it's already quick, and i know the gain from 130bhp (stock) to around 200bhp (with a **** load more torque) will make it much more than i need, cant wait though

it will be interesting to see how the gearing changes with this set up.
notoriously long geared from 3rd upwards.
completely different to any other SEAT or VW gti.
personally i'd bin the 1.8 and get an abf and supercharge that.If i was going to do it.

3rd gear isnt too bad in mine, i cant afford an engine transplant and charging it, this will be unique. It's what i want to do anyway, can always change the gearing later on if i dont get on with it

how much does a gearbox rebuild cost roughly? and what ones fit the ADL lump
