hey everyone,

finally have the news ive been wanting to tell you for ages..
the missus finally made up her mind and the FR has been ordered this weekend

Petrol FR TFSi DSG
Red
18's
Bluetooth
Convenience Pack

They have this car at the port and will be able to get it at the end of the month..woohoo!!

originally didnt spec the conv pack but it would otherwise have been a long long wait considering the factory closure during august :funk:

just one more issue to try to sort out concerning parking sensors now. im sure ive seen them colour coded and mounted on the top of the bumper but the garage insist they will be fitted to bottom grey/black stip of the bumper.

will the sensors have enough side coverage fitted on the grey black strip beneth the number plate? (its the missus' car and she will be driving mainly remember )

dead exctied,
ghosty :funk:

I have mine mounted in a similar position mate and don't seem to have any problems with them being there, must say though that I still use my mirror's for the sides.

rich,
where is your speaker/hooter/beeper? front or rear?

Rear passenger side Chris, well this is where it sound's like it is, never really looked for it. I have asked if it could be turned up a little bit if possible if not, I'm not bothered about the speaker been relocated, it'd be fine where it is.

ghosty you can get colour coded sensors but i dont know if its in the same red that the fr comes in. however im sure your wife doesnt need 'extra wide' coverage so the black strip area should be fine .

i dont know where i'd prefer it. i want to be able to hear it clearly, ie the front, but dont think it would seem right looking over my shoulder and the beep coming from in front of me. if you know what i mean. i may have a fiddle before finally settling on a position.

cheers for the info on the sensors Cupra R, its mainly the sides im worried about as we have an increddibly tight drive with 2 metal posts on wither side!!
(has caught me off guard once  so we'll need all the help we can get her)

I'm sure the sensor's will pick them up, Especially after being careful when you first start using them, getting used to how/what/when they bleep etc, then she will be able to do it with her eye's closed I'm sure. If you know what I mean.

I had a Bora before this car, with factory fit sensor's, I got used to them that much that I wanted them on the Cupra, but I found they seemed to work a little bit different (I know this may seem odd, but they did) after I got used to the way these work, they are now just as good as what were on the Bora.

Yer, now what you mean re them being in front of you lol, I also didn't want them pulling out any unnecessary trim for it to be put back and maybe rattle :headhurt:

I had my dealer fit parking sensors speaker moved from boot to front (behind glove box). They don't need to remove the trim or door cards to relocate as far as I am aware (it took all of 5 minutes to move) :)

Sorry for hijacking your post Ghosty.

I did look for the module once(didn't actually find it lol), I opened the bulb replacement flap on the passenger side and saw what looked like sponge in a plastic bag and thought they'd wrapped it up to stop it rattling, looked into the drivers side and don't remember seeing anything similar.

Now while my car is back at the dealers having some work done, they have borrowed me an Altea XL (very nice it is too) I have looked into the back of this and both sides have the sponge in plastic, it must be sound deadening. I'm going to recheck my car and hopefully find the sound deadening in the drivers side too.

Don't get me wrong, the sound from the sensor's speaker is loud enough, but my Bora was louder.

It's not as loud as the one in my works BMWs but it's alot louder than it was in the boot (basically couldn't hear it!). It's loud enough for me if I turn the stereo down ;)

Hi Ghosty,

Great to see you ordered a DSG.

I look forward to hearing what your thoughts are since I am thinking of getting a DSG FR.

Did you get a test drive in the DSG and was it on 18 wheels. What did you think of it?

And can I be cheeky and ask what you paid?

Paul

hi Paul,

the DSG is amazing, i have driven the DSG in a golf gti, A3 2.0T, A3 2.0TDi and an FR. The auto box is the same in all the cars and the engine the same in 3 out of 4 of them so that might be an idea if you cant get hold of an FR DSG to test drive ;) it will give u a good feel of what the auto can do. its so much fun and smooth as silk. it has quite a few settings, fully auto, change up and down on the gear stick, flappy paddles on the sterring wheel, sport mode

i actually test drove the gti and A3 2.0T over a year ago when i was thinking of buying one for myself...so am not that cheeky!!!

the FR i test drove was on 17's and i didnt find it overly firm, it was comparable to a mini cooper if tha helps. not sure about with the 18's but should be a bit firmer.

as for pricing, the forum is all about info sharing. i got the dealer to match the discount i could have got from TDN and they took 1700 off the list price, so 17,345 in all. i would have walked if i wasnt happy but i was happy ehough with that :D

thanks ghosty

am gonna try and get the 24hr test drive thats on offer at the moment.

i have driven a mini cooper S not the cooper

anyway I have the Leon tdi sport at the moment and lots of wee things annoy me about it. fancy going back to a petrol but cant decide on being a lazy b and getting the auto or getting a cupra

does anybody know if the FR is a harder ride than the sport? i drove the Cupra and that is softer and smoother.

right, done some asking around. called up another nearby dealer and they said they stopped fitting parking sensors cos they had problems getting them to fit flushly and such (bit worrying and doesnt fill you with confidence does it!)

called an independant next and they put me in touch with their electric guy who said that he could do them colour coded and fitted to the bumper for 200+vat. which is pretty good seeing a my dealer wanted 300 to fit uncoloured ones to the grey/black part of the bumper. he'll also come round to do it and it'll only take an hour or so...bonus. might be doing that then :D
