HAd a look on auto trader, just browsing and came across an ad for a 1999 GTi 16v Cupra sport. T plate with 51k on the clock. Was advertised for £1700 from a SEAT authorised dealer.
Thinking this was a bargain i phoned up and confirmed the model with the dealer and then made plans to go check it out this morning. When i got there it was a cupra but an 8v. I then asked the salesman if this was a 16v and he told me it was, at which point I had to tell them that it was a not a 16v. Luckily the the dealer (not sure if im allowed to mention names, but they are based in Wolverhampton) was only 20miles away from me. But if some unlucky person thought the same as i did and were travelling a good distance to view the car i bet they'd be alot more angry than me.

The car itself is not much to my liking (had lexus clear rear lights and some other halford mods) but the dealer seems to be desparate to get rid of it so if any one is looking for a red 2l 8v cupra and is willing to spend abit of time putting her right thats the car. I reckon i could have offered them £1000 and they have sold it to me!!

Rant over!!

Same happened with my car, it was advertised as a 16v then when I got there it wasn't. I looked at 2 before I got mine that were advertised as 16v but were 8v, seems quite common. You would think a Seat authorised dealer would know the difference though.

I travelled from cardiff no newcastle to buy a 16v...bought it not knowing much about them...got home and it was an 8ver!! cheaper car insurance made me keep her though :D

are good old whitmarines Seat, USLESS fookers lol...

"im after a N/S wingmirror backing painted", after searching for 5 mins, "colour coded?" i reply "yes"... "are these standard to the car?" .. Yes its a mk2 ibiza gti 16v cupra".. "o rite we dont list those" ...

"erm ok, im after some side skirts to as mine are missing" .. looks for 5 minutes .. "its a mk2?" .. "yes its a mk2 on a R plate".... "are these side skirts aftermarket or standard?" ...At which point i gave up and left with my £17 splitter

I drove an hour to pick up a 16v, only to reach the place and find out half the engine was missing! Oh well, i though it was cheap enough at £1650 only 48k on the clock with full dealer history and only 2ladies!!

car supermarket in cannock tried selling me a 20VT passat,without a T.
i asked the salesman to point out the turbo.he had no idea what one was, never mind where it was in the engine bay :w4nk:

i Bought mine thinking it was a 16v. got home, "IT WASNT"

doesnt say anything on the log book about valves so unless u know what a 16v engine looks like how u supposed to know? I KNOW NOW!

still luv my 8v. getting on my nerves at the moment though. had the mk2 golf gearbox put on and a new clutch and mow its developed an annoying scraping sound from the clutch area!

I think its ridiculous. I asked salesman if it was a 16v while there and he said yes. Like you say, if i didn't know what the 16v engine looked like id have believed him.

This is quite common on ebay also. They advertise it as a 16v and then you look at the picture of the engine bay and its actually an 8v. Luckily for me, mine is a 16v :)

buying a car without popping the bonnet is madness.if you don't know what you are looking at,take someone with you that does.

my car was advertised as a 16v and i got mine from a "specialist" imports & performance company. I thought it was pretty obvious as soon as you open the bonnet you can tell its a 8v.
