What can you people tell me about the Cupra R's which were used at Rockingham?

A mate has had a Cupra R for well over a year now, he's just giving it a proper polish, and has discovered what appears to be the 'sun shading' of what once used to be a 'race flag' decal, the numer '12' decal and various others on the bonnet. He's never noticed or known of anything to make him think it was a track car before now!!

Now that its polished up, it appears that in the slightist possible way, the sun has faded the areas of the bonnet where the decals did not cover.

How many Cupra R's were used as track cars?
What were there use...was it for people to pay to drive them round the track or did they have some pro drivers behind the wheel?

Is there any other tell tail signs of it being a track car??

Any info is appreciated.

Thanks.

I think there were 12 of the UK total (which means that the odds of a yellow Cupra R being a rockingham car is really high)

cage mounts if they've not been cut out.

I know most had new panels, one had all new except the roof

You pay to drive the cars round the track while being schooled - they were mostly all 'well run in'

 Hmmm, quite an intresting read this.

Does anyone know how many colours of each were produced for cupra r's?

As far as im aware mine was never used as a track car and there is no evidence in the history to suggest this. My reg doesnt have any of the letters stated in the rockingham cars so it seems im lucky.

what was it... 60 cars, in 3 colours.

the dead giveaway was in 2003ish a load of low mileage (like 1500 miles) cupra r's were sold with one previous owner (SEAT)

that's the biggest hint

1500 hard miles running at 180bhp , wouldnt put to much stress on the engine surely , would of they had the brembos on as well , with standard discs and pads

Didn't earlier cars have SKN on their plate? Just look for the usual signs mentioned above.

You're thinking SKJ - which was the 2001 track day cars used

ie - 1st (and only X plate Cupra R) was X202SKJ - which was not used on the track

however, the Ibiza Cupra's that were used (for example) were X183SKJ - these had cages in & were ovni

But since I'm nerding it up - the Leon Cupra's also used on the track were Y518TKN - these had cages in & were ovni

There were also some road cars that were well ragged shitless  - a leon cupra (blue) , a toledo V5, an Ibiza Cupra (red), some arosa & alhambra

The number plates on the car im referring to doesn't fit the number plate registration's as you've stated Mark, but yet it does have some other signs of being one those, surely the signs of decal markings on the bonnet gives it away a little?

But then again...i've seen some people try to immitate other cars by applying stickers, but surely know one would want to do this to a Cupra R?
