Morning mk2'ers think this is my 2nd post in this section, so be gentle.

Ok, i have a new job, and fingers crossed will be alot alot more money, now i can use it wisely, ot just waste it all on fast cars and beer :) i intend to do the latter.

my question is, do i buy my old 1.2 sx ibiza back and drop a 1.8t ihi mofo in with 450bhp! or buy a old school mk2 and again drop a 1.8 ihi mofo in it!

pros of the mk4 -

my old 1.2 (i feel for the old girl :p)
sleeper stylee (would keep it standard looking)
stripped out and very fast :p
modern

cons -

gunna cost more for the mk4 to buy
going to keep my diesel mk4, so will have 2 mk4's!
errr...

pros of mk2 -

old skool
cheaper to buy and mod
lighter when stripped maybe?

cons -

dont know much about the mk2,
handling over a mk4?
easy to fit a 1.8t in?

havnt got prices for either car, or conversation yet... so could make a big difference, or little.. aka the mk4 could be easier to work on dropping a 1.8t init, so after taking everything into acct could be cheaper than the mk2?!

what do you guys think?

anyone got prices for a decent mk2 shell? and how much a engine transplant would be?

I would go for the MK2 (No bias of course ;)) Much cheaper to buy, people have been picking them up for around 1k, even as cheap as £300 on here recently.
Roly who posts on here has done a couple of 1.8t transplants into a MK2 so he might be able to give you some info, there is a thread in this section somewhere about it.

450bhp out of an IHI? i dont think so! typo of 350? even that is a well setup IHI.

Anyway. 1.820vt are easy enough to put in mk2s. It would be cheaper to source a 20vt and put it in a mk2 than buy a 20vt mk4.

Mk4s look gash from the back.

I would go for the middle ground here; Buy a mk3 ibiza cupra and IHI that.

There's no need for two identical threads in different sections as now you have a thread with the same post in twice...

Was hoping for a mk2 thread looking at the best bits, then the best bits of the mk4!

As far as why not go for another car, hmm duno... i like the ibiza :p

As far as power, ya around 350bhp actually, tho might up the power later on...

What I was really wanting was, are the underpinnings of a MK2 good enough to handle the power? i dont just want to go fast in a straight line, so corners would be good to :)

Wouldnt be doing this till next year now, to save up funds and get settled in the new job role me thinks first :)

I just like the idea of a mk4 1.2 that still looks standard smoking Porkers!? Im I being silly and immature? :p

Buy yourself a MK2 with a knackered engine and bang a 20vt in it, making it handle as good as a mk3 20vt shouldn't be a problem as they very similar cars. The upside of buying a mk2 is that you can pick it up for absolute peanuts and you can make it look as basic as a mk4 1.2 any day, you could even add some dints and rusty arches for extra effect ;)
