Lighting question.

I'm thinking about a boot lighting solution for my boot.

I've done a search and it brought up various things such as torches etc.

However i'm thinking of going down the neon route. Maybe two neon 'bars' (not sure what there called). My problem is where could i source power for these and i am also just wanting them to glow when i open the boot. I'm no electric expert so there may be a simple solution out there that i don't know about.

just get a £2 led keyring and a bit of sticky back velcro

press the button to light up the boot, or remove from the velcro and point it into all the nook's and cranny's

works a treat on mine as there is no switch as standard on later models

as said, there is no switch or wiring as standard on the later models

it can be done but may void part of your warranty, I looked into it along with the glove box light and found that 2 £2 key rings have done the trick fine, one velcro'd in the boot and one in the glove box

you can wire a boot light up to the interior light circuit but it is tricky threading the wire under the head lining

just to say first if you pull it off let me know and i will have ago coz i think it will look awsome. you can buy the switch in electrical and car shops and i think the best place for the switch is where the boot lid touches the bumper. also you may aswel take the power from the battery n thread it under the carpet easiest thing i can think of.

I would second the above comment! It would bevery easy in theory to fit boot lights, done many things like this to previous cars. The hardest part would be feeding the wiring through and fitting the actual switch!

Take a look at Maplins. I am sure a spotty oik will be able to help you out with
all the bits you need . Or failing that, pretty much all DIY shops now have stick on led fittings.
Oh & I think you meant fluorescent tubes originally, careful with these as they may make your car look like a corsa, especially if you use blue ones

it is very possible to fit boot lights in the Ibiza, I have done it on old cars that I have owned like mini's and mk3 escort, I even fitted the puddle lights and foot well lights on a volvo 480 turbo a few years ago

all you need is some wire, a switch and a lamp (please make sure that you fit a Fuse into your wiring, make sure that the Fuse is at the beginning of any wiring that you install

smoking wiring under your carpet or above your headlining will be expensive to repair, just remember to put a fuse in as close to the source as possible

a piece of unfused wire from the battery to the boot is gonna be like a heating element if it shorts out on something metal in your boot

The 12v fluorescent tubes are usually in a plastic sleeves to prevent this happening & neon is also suspended in glass. Strangely, Ikea do some small led strips that I think are 12v, as the come with a mains adaptor 4x30cm strips for about £20. Leds are good as they should last in excess of 30,000 hours & they dont get hot.
or get a light sabre

surely you could just hook it upto the light that is already in the boot for the switch?? or you could stop being picky and just have them connected to your sound system

thers no light in my boot mate.

ok what i would do if i was you is get the power from the amp like people do if they have a neon chavtastic boot install and just have them on all the time but if you want to have the only comes on when the doors are opened thing i would take the headlining off and run a wire in the headlining from the interior light down to the back OR you could run it down through the glove box and down the side where you have prob run the sound system wiring then al you need to do is find the right wire that will come onwhen the door is open and tap into that with the wire for the neon's should be a fairly easy thing to do wouldn't imagine it being to hard!!
