Hi all, I`m gunna be needing some new tyres very soon. I`ll have to replace all 4 really, could get away with 3 tho, has 1 is still like new. I`ve replaced them once & put on what i got from manufactors. Could do to be paying less tho what prices have u people been paying & what tyres? cheers all.
 
I only Put Toyo Proxes T-1R's on mine. The grip is far better than the P6000's that were fitted from new, and although they aren't cheap they are well worth the money.
IMO tyres are you best bet for keeping the car on the road in corners and gripping well for braking. A cheap set might be a lot dearer in the long run if they let you down.
 
I had continentals when i got the car (leon FR TDI) with 9k on the clock so I presume they were on there from new, replaced them at 20k with Kumho KU31(225/45/ZR17 94Y XL) which also lasted 20k and were as good as, if not better than the conti's, especially in the wet. Paid £316 for 4 kumho's fitted at local Ecsta Performance garage in Warwick/Leamington, glued hidden weights, decent valves and didn't damage wheels, dare say conti's would have been more!!!

Best bet is to shop round locally and see who will do the best deal and also get quotes of the mobile fitters. I find that big name places like kwik fit etc.. are more expensive and i wouldn't trust a cheapo dodgy back street place not to break something! Find a good value place that you'd be happy to leave your car with!!

I got my last ones from Tyreshopper.co.uk, Avon AV3's, quite impressed with them, I think they were £87 each fitted. They fit them at any National Tyre Centre in the UK.

Very easy and much cheaper than other places I looked.

How do these handle in the wet?

I've just driven in the wet in Lincolnshire and my TDI FR was all over the place - I'm going to need new tyres soon anyway - what's the best for wet/shitty surfaces?
 
I dropped in Eagle F1's after much research. I am really please with them, they have less road noise and more grip than the original Bridgestone Potenza'a.
They are also cheaper.
Try a company called etyres.co.uk, they are the cheapest I found and they even come to your door to fit them at no extra cost.

I got the same tyres from the same place last week. Ordered them at dinner time on wednesday and the courier was knocking at the door at 8:30am the following day.:D They even guessed that I had a Leon and knew about this forum with loads of other people ordering them!
 
I got my last few lots of tyres from blackcircles.com and found they had a large choice and the prices were good. Service was also top notch

They were for 14" Cav alloys tho !!:shrug:
 
i allways use camskill there service is second to none and they always can beat the prices

tyres i have had on mine are

toyo proxie t1Rs (really good in wet and dry, wear quick due to soft compound)
pirelli p6000 (shite IMO, lasted 6k)
avon zz3 (good grip in wet, wore out too fast)
falken 452's (good lasting tyre good grip in dry)
goodyear eagle F1's (really good in wet and dry, wear quick due to soft compound if driven hard)

for performance and wet grip goodyear are the best and thats what i still use, for value i would go for the falken fk452's i wasnt too keen pushing the car into a bend with these tyres as they seemed to let go at the rear
 
tdi fr 150

still using p6000 rears, but fronts:

original p6000 lasted me 7500 miles

swapped for bridgestone potenza - excellent grip even in the wet, were down to wear lines but hung on even when the rear stepped out - managed to eek 5k miles, wore nice and even despite abuse

looked at others, toyos goodyear falken f1s but unknown to me so have got pirrelli pzero asyms on at the mo. good in the wet and dry.


all from local lodge tyres fitter - never pay the price they ask for when first enquire :)
