Hey. i need a diagnostics kit for my mk2 Ibiza. I know i could simply search the web but thought i'd see if you guys know the best, ie cheapest ;), place to get it.

At the expense of sounding dumb, a diagnostics kit is often refered to as (a) vag com on this forum, right?

Cheers.

ive got a cable which you can connect vag-com to it, (vag-com is the popular software used ...but pretty expensive) i just use the trial version (which is kinda half cracked, i dunno how that happened but i cant do everything but its better than just giving the usual trial readings)

read up on it they have a wiki, i bought my cable on ebay for about £8 i think.

but dont go rushing to buy something you dont know about (i do it all the time and realise what i buy is no good) read up on vag-com and ross tech in google.

Cheers for the reply. Idealy i'd like a portable kit that i can take anywhere with me without the need of a computer. I'll search for something like that.

Hang on a sec. Why are they so cheap? And they claim to be able to read all faults and reset them. Isn't that what the proper vagcom does too, but costs alot more?? If they do all they say im gonna get one.
Anyone used one and know about it?

Recieved my hand held scanner today and just checked it out. It works as it should...

So does it pick up everything ie engine, abs etc. If so thats wicked. Will have to get one myself. I dont suppose you know if you can remove fault codes aswell?

It reads Engine, A/T, SRS and ABS fault codes. I don't know if theres anything missing that can be read on another scanner though...

Yes, you can erase the fault codes.

I'm not sure if it works 100% because i have a problem with my fuel gauge, or the sender unit. The gauge gives no reading. It says i'm out of fuel and the light's always on, even though i have a full tank. However, the scanner doesn't pick this up.

When i try and run a scan on A/T and ABS, it comes back with "linking error" but i don't have ABS and i think A/T stands for Automatic Transmission, and i have a manual. Do you know if A/T does stand for Auto Transmission? Also, SRS is the air bag system, right?

Apart from that, it works perfectly. lol.

be careful with the airbags, coz i know with the vag-com if u test the airbags there is a chance of messing them up. and sometimes when it displays code 00-00 which means "no response/communication" then that could also mean that its dead and thats why there is no response.
