Does anyone know why Seat have the fixed 10k/1 year service intervals when VW have had variable interval ones since 2002 ?

With my previous Tdi Golf you could either do the 10k/1 year interval or on vairaible which meant it ran on Longlife oil and was serviced when the dash display said it was needed. Worked out to be every 18,000 miles.

Is it just a way for Seat to make more money out of us ?

probably, also down to brand differentiation, giving VW the perception of being of higher quality

I think there's possibly the issue of there not being the sensor in the sump to monitor the oil aswell. Consequently you might not be able to set the ecu to monitor the oil quality as you would on the longlife sevice schedule.

As far as getting more money out of you, well you pay less for the oil with the 10k sevice but change it more often. However, I just had mine serviced at my friendly VW dealers, and they use the longlife oil for the 10k sevice schedule aswell. Good eh? :D

well I know which I prefer In fact mine is changed @ 7-8K ie annually, and the half pint of dirty oil removed from the cooler!! I certainly would not want to buy a car which had done 18K on one oil fill nomatter what some dealer may say, I noticed one of the JEEPs whith a similar engine is only nine K apparently it has a smaller sump( useless fact of the day)
