There is a company called HIDS4U that aparantly specialise in aftermarket Hids.. they range from 7k to 15k i think. They do both normal, fogs and Bi Xenon kits as far as im aware. Although i think the Bixenon kits are only available if your car has h4 bulbs as standard. Iv read a couple of good reviews on them and they do have a website. Not seen or used them personally though...
 
OEM Xenon upgrade? what did you have done and why?

Those lights look really good.. would never tell they an after market job.. How do they compare to factory fit xenons in the flesh? do they perform as well?

They aren't.
Read the post - it came with xenons, just that they upgraded the bulbs to a higher powered one (+ added xenon bulbs to the high beam -seems a waste to me doing that??)
 
No, the K rating doesn't mean more power, you've actually got more light output from 4300K than from 6000K. 6000k just gives you more of a blue light than the OE yellowish one.
The projector lens combined with 4300K will give a whiter light, 6000k with projector lens will give a bluer light. 6000k with a reflector lens will give a blue / white light. 4300k with a reflector lens will give a yellowish white.

The projector lens units add a slight blue tinge which is why OEM Xenon / HID use 4300K and not 6000K

So was there a difference on how they performed on the road? The HIDs 4u website reckons (as does UF) that they produce less useable light, so was it a purely aesthetic mod?
 
At this point it's fair to say that the improvement that projector lenses give when used with HID over reflector lenses - i doubt you'd notice the difference between 4300k and 6000k with the naked eye.

However when i changed my 6000k HID over from the standard reflector lenses into the new angel eye projector lenses the difference in light quality was immeditely noticeable. What i didn't try was 4300k in the projectors. Signs and other road markings all light up with an almost indigo tinge around the edge of the beam pattern when i approach, they didn't do that with the reflector lenses with the same bulbs in. However the beam pattern in the reflectors was appalling compared to the projectors.

That's the reason i haven't put HID in the main beams - yet - i've something under way to do this but it's a winter project :)
 
Hi all, i fitted some hid`s to my leon the other day, i opted for bosch oem h7 6000k. very easy to fit, just drill 25mm hole in headlight cover, and then pass wires thru, grommet re-seals hole nicely, and mount the ballest on the inner wings, by the shocker mounts. Massive difference! and damn cheap £75 plus postage.
Ps. also had ot on the rolling road today, very very suprised
standard car 193bhp best 189 worst
tunit + k and n, plus cold air fan blowing 200.1bhp best, 198 worsed
Hence, tunit been taken off, waste of hard earned!
ploughin money into the body kit now instead

It is true hat 4300K bulbs will give more useable light than 6000K, but I couldn't tell any different. The mod was purely aesthetic.
As for the HID conversion on the main beam, well, that was a different story!!!
They were far, far brighter than the standard Halogen bulbs. Reminded me of my old Cibie spotlamps that I had on my first car - they were proper bright.
 
they reckon the lower the k (kelvin) the brighter the bulb. standard halogens are about 1400-2500 k, standard oem hid are 4300k. i put 6000k on as they seem to make the road in front more detailed. they do have a slightly bluer tinge.then again hid are only 35w as opposed to 50w for standard halogen. You can always change your bulbs, to find your preffered.
either way, they look 100 times better than the original yellow halogens:cartman:

im thinking on H.I.Ds but they are to bright for the city and it may be annoying for other drivers, so im looking white h3 bulbs, but i dont know what do you think?..................

If all you do is city driving and don't use your foglights for anything functional .... just get some high power forward facing H3 LED in there. Instant colour match and no problems for other drivers.
