Hi

Just doing some research (again) into brakes and pads this time. The DS2500's keep coming up time and time again.

As a lot of people on this forum use them, are they good pads for normal driving conditions (i.e. going to work). As these are race pads, do they need some 'warming' up first. To put it into real world context, are they going to work as well at least as o/e pads when I pull up to the junction first thing in the morning on the main road to work?

I think that the o/e pads are pretty good 90% of the time, but fading is an issue for the remainder. Would DS2500's be detriment to the other 90%. I know its the same question as above  Just want to ensure that member's understand that its a public road question and not track.

Lastly, dust is apparently an issue with these pads. Are they that bad? (i.e. clean on Monday morning by the time you get home from work on a 40 mile round trip they really want cleaning that badly?) - just like the old under crackers!! No stop - you know what I'm getting at!!!

They're excellent pads, much better than the standard ones even for day to day driving & when cold.

Not sure where you read about dust being an issue  My DS pads are much LESS dusty than the standard pads... and they do take a fair bit of abuse :p

I can't remember exactly where I picked it up but I did, honest I did!

As I said previously, I like to research first before asking, I know it p**ses people off when muppets don't do this and ask the same old questions. I know I've done it!! Anyway because of you I thought I'd look back quickly to find where I picked up the dust from. Couldn't find it.. but guess what, I stumbled across another thread answering this question earlier this month!! Doh!:banghead2

The answer is 'they appear to work just as good (if not better) than o/e in the cold'

I can't beleive it, I reckon this thread must have had a cloaking device - just like me and the car on the way home it seems a few nights back!!! I know its platinum grey and not Ovni yellow but its got bluddy H7's on the front.... HID's? Reactions were the only process at the time - you know those near misses, I think I've only had about three of those in my whole experience as a driver - nearly twenty years worth!

I think it sh1t the guy in the Focus up. At least he acknowledged it - good man. He was turning right onto a main road (national speed limit applies), I was doing the national speed limit (I was as its only 50 yards off the roundabout) at I 'd say less than twenty yards from the junction he pulled out. Fortunately he continued with the manouvre and didn't do a frozen bunny impression.

Phew the old sphincter went! As I said it was one of those - no thought process time available! HID's again - I don't know if these would have made a difference.

I have the ds2500's fitted and they do need a bit of heat to get the best from them, i have to disagree here and say they aren't that great when cold. I have 2 junctions within 100 yards of leaving my house and stopping from around 20mph takes quite some time. Mind you it is dam cold up here

 Your old Astra's nice aswell.

Not a fan of vauxhall's, but I did like those old Astra coupes. Especially the 2 litre turbo's - did temp me though.

Cheers

I asked EXACTLY the same question about a month ago.........and then fitted my DS2500.

They are as people in this thread have said as good if not better than OEM when cold, but once you've got some heat in them they are really very good indeed.

In my opinion they do not work as well when v.cold - noticably have to press brake pedal harder. I have to stop at the bottom of a hill within 150 metres from my house and it is nopticable here, but once I have braked once they seem fine and jsut like OE. Until you get some real heat into them and then they bite hard.

I know you did. I did mention this earlier:doh:

So yes i do use the search engine! probably too much.

Anyway good job I did ask again as some say they need work when cold.
