After saying on here a few times about how Mk3's are reasonably reliable, mine has now presented me with a bill for over £1000 from yesterdays service.

80k service & brake fluid change £210 (done yesterday)

New clutch
New PAS pump
New centre section
Couple of other little bits ~ £900

Oh...and it'll soon need two front tyres.

Gutted to hear that mate, always the worst to get bad news and have a hefty bill to fork out for, but also count yourself lucky, my mate bought an S3, all looked good, turned out it needed a new engine in the end! Suspected head gasket to start with, get the head off and checked, found the head was cracked and then found the cylinder bores were all shot! Was gutting! his bill ended up about 2.5k

Andy - does ~ £900 sound ok for clutch, exhaust centre section and PAS pump?
It's being done at a Skoda main dealer who I have a good relationship with the service manager so I get trade labour rates and discounted parts.

If thats all in including VAT and fitting that doesnt sound a bad price at all to me mate. Is it standard centre section or an aftermarket one? How much did they bill out the clutch kit for?

Just to give you an idea I had a VR6 clutch and g60 flywheel fitted and the total cost of fitting inluding the parts was a shade under £600

Its all using VAG / SEAT parts and includes VAT etc. I think the clutch kit was £410, PAS pump, £300 and exhaust £200

you could get a stainless centre section for about £200 and it'll never need replacing again.

ouch!! i had a bill of £900ish for cambelt, clutch and fly wheel

clutch was £240
cambelt was £280
flywheel was bout £300

hurts the wallet!!

I always thought it was the problem with running older vehicles until yesterday morning when I had a bill in the post to get out 1 year old DAF 7.5 tonner through it's MOT which was £1700.

Now I think it's all vehicles.

I dont know about that, wheni had my mk3 ibiza cupra with a Miltek cat back both ends of the box split all the way round the weld! .

Luckilly i fit exhausts as part of my job so i sorted it at work

It's not a problem with older vehicles... if any of mine costed £1700 for an MOT they'd be weighed in.

I guess the clutch isn't MOT, that's maintenance, so that's not "too bad"

labour is cheap for you though compared to what they normaly rip you for

We got rid of the old truck because that needed 4 grand spending to pass the MOT.

I did consider part exchanging it against something else, but we're moving house and going to increase our mortgage substantially so I can't afford to use any of our moving funds or borrow at the moment.
Even if I bought something else that could want something spending on it in the next 12 months - at least once the ibiza is done then that should be it for a little while yet.

Their usual labour rate is £65 / hour. I get it at £50 ph

got this supplied and fitted for £350 all in. all new parts with 3 years warranty
