Hi guys,

MOT time this afternoon, 1st one for the LEON.

I haven't had to get one of these for about 4 years now - is there any pre MOT stuff I need to do ?

Only two things concerning me - 1 is that I have a slow puncture in one of the tyres (going to pump it up beforehand - but is this a fail or an advisory ?).

2nd are the HID's ! I see most people have been OK so far, but we'll see.....

Cheers

if lights are aligned - nothing to worry
pump up the tyre, but if tread is wrong may fail

make sure engine is very very very very hot before take in and ask to do straight away for better emissions pass rate

i've had mine on leon once and noting to fear

as far as i know they do test diesels for emissions.

check all lights, indicators fogs, reverse, side lights etc.
Make sure the wipers work and so does the windscreen washers. (make sure it has enough water in it).
As said, if MOT place is close make sure its warm before testing, however they should know this.

Slow puncture, id say if they find it they would fail it. whether they find it depends how slow it is. - could this effect brake bias?

Cheers Andy.

All lights work, got my rear washer sorted last week, and front one's re-aligned.

Really slow puncture, about 1 month before it deflates to a noticeable amount

Had my first MOT last week and failed on a mis-aligned headlight and having blue bulbs, which are now back as standard. I've just got to go back this Wednesday to have a leaking power steering pipe replaced and it should pass easily. Don't think they looked at the tyres on mine other than a visual inspection so you should be fine if they're pumped up.

erm...
;)

they will just look at them to see if they have legal tread and probably also inspect the side wall for damage / bulges.
They would probabyl only measure the tyre depth where its very near the limit.

Also note they they should check the spare tyre. You can fail an MOT for a spare thats not inflated or has illegal tread.
But have no spare and you dont fail.

haha - how pathetic is that !

Spare is brand new, only used it once for a day.

Only 1 tyre is close to the limit (thats the one with the slow puncture, hence why I haven't had it repaired yet, waiting to get a brand new tyre)

Failed on a miss aligned head light?, wouldn't they just adjust it for you there and then?.
I assume you also need legal plates?.

Plates are standard allan - aint messed about with them :)

Going to go down in a bit - gonna go down the back roads so I can hammer it........

you'd think they would, but they failed mine for this and gave me car straight back.
i complained like a banshee as they're fault as i saw it. They replaced bumper and didn't realign them.
needed a new windscreen so failed anyway, but they won't necessarily re-align for you.
easier to fail, make you fix and charge a re-test fee, though this is a the mot test centre discretion.

if its just going to fail for missaligned headlights its less hassle for them to align them than to fill out the fail paperwork and then retest it later.
If however they have to fill out the paperwork and retest anyway (for something else) then they may decide not to bother.

However i did think that there was an expectation that things like headlight adjustment would be inclusive and was part of the reason for justifying the increase in MOT price.

No I meant in general Chris, I assume legal plates are a requirement?.
I must get some made

All sorted & passed with no advisories :)

As for the emissions, with my remap, I got the following (no idea what is a pass or fail though)

Test Limit applied = 1.50 l/m

Absorption Coefficient = 0.72 l/m

Zero Drift = 0.01 l/m

Absorption Coefficient after correction = 0.71 l/m

Test Type = Fast Pass

Test Result = Pass

If anyone can elaborate on the results.........

If allignment is out the MOT Tester has the ability to PRS the allignment which basicly means they adjust it to the correct standards. You still get a fail but also a pass (VT20).

Make sure the tester knows what they are looking at when they check the allignment.

The horizontal line needs to be between the 2 RED lines and the kick up between the 2 VERTICAL DOTTED LINES. If they have not done it to that standard you have grounds for an appeal which then means VOSA get involved.

To be honest mst testers do not know the correct standards which is very poor. If you get any probs just contact me and i'll be happy to help and anwer any questions.

Number plates need to be of the correct standard too.

Diesels are tested to the amount on carbon produced under load. They use a opacity reader (light shined through the emissions). A turbo diesel have a pass rate at 3.00ppm and non turbo at 3.50ppm. They now have the fast pass which is set at 1.50ppm because most modern cars have a clean burn engine. Hope this helps
