Well I drove to the dealer with the 06 GTi 200 and drove away in a 08 Cupra.
The cupra is amazing. It's so stylish and it handles and sounds better than the Golf. It feels like a sports car inside with the dark headlining and tinted windows. The xenon lights are amazing and the little dance they do when switched on just cracks me up... The Cupra is more of a head turner than the Golf and I wish I'd had one earlier.

I was amazed how smooth and refined the car is, especially as it handles like a go-kart. On a steady drive if feels comfortable and quiet but when it gets opened up (already touched 5000rpm a couple of times... tut tut) it feels like a sports car... exactly what I want from a car.

So, I love the looks, feel, price, performance and sound of the Cupra.

I have noticed a few minor things which I find a bit odd after the Golf:
1) No gas lift on the bonnet
2) No dash light when the cruise is switched on
3) Only 1 plip key
4) No hooks (really useful) or nets in the boot
5) No drivers grab handle
6) No auto lights/wipers (option on the Seat)
7) No ambience lighting (the red LEDs in the interior light cluster)

But, I love the folding mirrors and the auto locking. Overall the Cupra is by far the better car. If you're thinking of a GTi or a Cupra... get the Cupra and go on holiday with the money you save!:D
Well chuffed! (except the dodgy reg: FN08!)

As you alude to. the thing you have to ask yourself though, are those things that are missing really worth griping about too much. The car is a similar price to a GTi200 yet on the road its every bit a match for the GTi30th Aniversary (230) which is several thousand more on the road.

SEAT have to cut the costs somewhere. I'd rather have the extra performance over a few creature comforts. :)

what colour have you got? I've got a 57 reg inferi black Cupra, I might see you (or you see me) around in Coventry area sometime. (I take it you live in CV7 ??)

Inferi too... here's the pics (hopefully) I'll look out for you around Cov...

Yeah, Probably didn't put my point across well enough... I'd have the Cupra over the GTi (even the ED30) any day... Never intended to gripe, just being unbiased! The Cupra is the better car.

auxillary then knob!!

i guess you chose neither plate then?

dont sing the cupra's praises too much though, we dont want them becoming common.

Congrats on the car fella - had mine 3 weeks now and don't regret a thing.

I agree with your points too - I was particularly disapointed with only one 'plip' key - poor when spending £19K on a new car :(

No... but there was a guy picking up a black Fr at the same time and his plate started FL08... not sure which is worse? I don't undersatnd why there's not more Cupras about. In fact I've never seen another one, even at the local dealers. Maybe not looking hard enough? Plenty of FR's with 18" though!
Forget the diesel, as they say it's smiles per gallon not miles per gallon!:)

i havent seen another on the road either (except for the other SCN members on the seat track day), and i think the first ones have been around almost a year now.

and i get plenty of smiles per gallon out of mine. enjoy.

I've seen quite a few on the road :(

Mainly black as well (think there might be a couple local to me), seen one zenith grey, a couple of red ones, but never a white or yellow apart from the track day.

what sort of milage are you doing phil?

i dont do that many and it tends to be the same roads most of the time, so if there are other cupras up my way maybe i'm just not coming across them.

My mileage is very random done just over 6500 in the Cupra but to be honest the car can sit for days then I do a long run in it.

The cars I've seen have many been at shopping centres. Saw the Zenith Grey one at Teesside park just after I'd ordered mine, didn't see any for ages but have parked near a few here at different retail parks/shopping centres in Leeds. The red one I only saw the once and I've seen a few blacks ones but to be honest they could be the same car as all the sighting have been within 3 miles of each other.

Not come across any on the motorway, but then again its difficult to tell when they are going the other way.

Not seen a white one of any model so far, apart from at the track day or in the showroom.

Congrats on the new car. Looks amazing.

As you don't have the cruise light I gather you don't have the bluetooth function.

So, you have just taken it to 5k revs. That is when the car just starts to come alive!!

Make sure you put V-power in it. It will make it a bit more eager after a few tankfulls and oh yes get a wee remap :funk:

How do you find the ride quality compared to the GTi?

No bluetooth unfortunately... will be getting it next time along with the convenience pack and one or two other goodies. I nearly always ran the Golf on V-power and really noticed the difference when it had normal juice in...
I had an 05 GTTDi 140 Golf before the GTi and had Superchip which took it to 170 approx and it was fantastic. Soon after one of the engine mountings sheared and soon after that the Turbo became very noisy when warm so I changed it for the GTi.

I'd say the ride quality of the Cupra is far better than the Gti... The Cupra has an excellent balance of smooth ride in normal conditions and then go-kart handling when pushed. Fantastic. The Golf was very good, but it seemed 'heavy' compared to the Cupra and lacked the responsiveness.
I never thought I'd say this but the Golf GTi now looks very plain and dated... and certainly light years away from the styling of the Cupra which is probably one of the best looking cars on the road, if not THE best. (even better than the K1)
As for the remap, not sure as it did a wee wheelspin when I went into second (on a dry road!) under reasonable accelleration... surely any more than 240 horses through the front wheels would be traction control lights all the time??

Best car I've ever had... think Carlsberg made it;) Apart from the annoying rattle from around the driver's A pillar area (could be in the door or dash) Both the GTTDi and the GTi had dash rattles sorted under warranty!
