Was driving home from work tonight about 40-50 and went over what felt like a pothole and immediately started hearing a banging noise from the back of the car as the wheel went round. So I pulled over and had a look at the back but couldn't see anything. So I drove on and could still hear the noise.

Jacked both rear wheels up and they seemed to turn without any noises. Eventually got back to work and then saw what appears to be a big rusty bolt (along with nut) through my tyre and alloy wheel [:@]

I can't beleive it pierced the alloy but suppose it has to, being that long and with low profile tryes. Im guessing this can't be re-furbed?

I've tried to swap over the spare wheel but after undoing the bolts, the wheel seems to be stuck on the hub  Am I missing something? Surely it should just come off...there were 3 of us trying to pull it off etc. but all that happens is the suspension moves a little.

How much is a new alloy?

:-o thats unbelievable! Thats just sheer bad luck going through the rim too mate, unlikely to be refurbed i wouldnt have thought :( i found my wheels extremely difficult to take off when i fitted my spacers, took far longer han i thought it would, along with a bit of brute force and ignorance! Just keep going at it i'd say, took me and my bro to get my wheels off!

Such a nice set of wheels too!

Sorry to hear this mate, that doesnt look good and is nothing more than bad luck.

If you have taken all the bolts out the wheel should just come off mate, cant imagine the bolt having anything to do with that problem

If you purchase a new alloy from a dealer it wont be cheap. But im sure there are a few websites that do replica wheels, id hope they would a perfect match?

Try a google search on replica wheels mate.

Hope its not to costly

sorry to see and hear about this i hope you can get the wheel off soon. so did the tyre deflate then?

 With a massive hole in the wheel I'd say it deflated.

As to getting the wheel off, try hitting the tyre part with a rubber mallet.

I would avoid replica wheels unless using it only as a spare tyre as chances are the replica will be heavier than the OEM.

Yea the tyre deflated but you wouldn't tell fomr looking at it. It still looks inflated until you press the tyre in. I drove about a mile on it and didn't notice anything apart from the noise of the bolt hittig what was proabbly the brake caliper.

I will use the spare and save up for a new wheel, dont really want a replica. We were hitting it with a hammer and a piece of wood but not budging! Gonna take some more hammers into work tomorrow where I left it and see what we can do.

Wow that's unlucky!!

I had the same problem with a wheel getting stuck. In the end i took out all the bolts and gently lowered the car so that there was some pressure on the wheel and it popped off. Sounds a bit dangerous i know, but it worked.

When you get the new wheel apply some copper grease to the hub so that it won't stick again. Whilst your there you might aswell fit some spacers!!

yea I tried lowering it and then jacking it up again but it didnt budge. Will try again tomorrow. Good call on the spacers ;)

The rears are a right pain to get off, I've now got the lie on your back and repetitively kick one side then the other (with the car on axle stands) and it will rock off.

that is very very unlucky mate, but to get the wheel off i'd leather it with a hammer, the wheel, not tyre.

Second that, Kick each side of the alloy, be ready to catch the wheel though.

Looks like I need to buy a trolley jack and axle stands then :( Might just be cheaper to limp to a garage.

I've read you can loosen the wheel bolts a small amount and then slowly drive a few feet, hit the brakes and this can loosen it up. Not a great idea I know, but might just work....

Well I guess it doesn't matter if you damage the wheel in the process.

Whenever I've had this problem, I've jacked the rear of the car up and put it on axle stands. Loosen the wheelbolts until they are almost out, but not quite.
Handbrake off.
Lay under the rear of the car and give the tyre a good kick outwards.
Rotate wheel a bit and kick again.
Repeat the rotation & kicking until it comes off.

In your case, there'd be no harm in wellying the rim with a lump hammer instead of kicking, as the wheel is f*cked anyway....!

my fr wheels were awkward to get off when i done my towbar it was a case of brute force and wiggling and they came off
