I've been using a bit of WD40 on a cloth to remove stubbon tar and bug spots - followed immediately by a soapy wash to remove the WD40.

Works a treat and cheaper than buying a seperate tar & bug remover - but as the dentist in Marathon Man would say...

is it safe ?

Yea mate, WD40 should not damage the paint. After all, WD404 is a very light oil and you wash any left over stuff straight off so it should be fine.

It's also about 50% solvent, which is why it's removing the tar and bugs.

In small doses and washed off straight away, I'd have thought it wouldn't do any harm to the paintwork in a hurry, but I'd have thought it was more trouble than it was worth to remove the residue.

i use the megs clay bar and quick detailer. its gettin tar off mine a treat!!!

Ok, I have to own up here. After I went over my car with a claybar a few weeks ago, I had a shot at removing the tar spots with WD40. It worked a treat. I washed it off straight away with the 50/50 water/Last Touch detailing solution I was using.

I found that the best way to apply the WD40 was using cotton wool buds.

Autosmart Tardis, the fastest easiest way to remove tar i have tried. It's also water soluble so leaaves no residue. Just rinse withwater and Hey presto. Only downside is that it also removes wax so lsp needs to be re-applied
