going to view the cupra today...what things should i look for???

hi guys, this is late notice as im leaving to view it in a couple of hours but havent been able to get on earlier cos mt internet has been down

going to view it today and more than likely getting it but have you guys got any info for me on special points to look for with the leon cupras

its a 2001 model in yellow.

any info guys asap would be great

i'd look for water leaks , boot and footwells.

all easily remedied....

so look for the stuff that's not so easy; but appears "bad" and are good bargaining tools

MAF; erratic idle, feeling a bit down on power & flat after 4000rpm
Brake Pads; can be expensive to replace, but aren't really
CV joints; check for splits, and signs of oily crap on the inside of the wheel arch
Steering Rack; play in the wheel as you drive
knocking suspension; ARB links
knocking exhaust
engine mounts

Check all the dash lights come on & go off; and easy trick would be to pull the bulbs out

If it's a main dealer consider asking them to show you a scan for fault codes so you can see if it has anything logged on the ECU.

I would also check the tyre shoulders for wear, have a feel under the door edges for water. Lift the car mats up and press your hands into the carpet to check for water. You won't see it by just looking.

Ask to see the service history and if it's + 4 years old ( which it is) the cambelt should have been changed and as the car is pre 2004 it should have had a metal bladed water pump fitted to replace the plastic one.

Cambelt and pump is a £350 to £400 bargaining point

Just a quick querie, so cars built after 2004 have the metal bladed water pumps then?

As far as i'm aware that's the case - although i can't remember where i read it ... am sure it was on a service bulletin.
