Which cars on the road are in the same power range as the Cupra.

What do you see on the road and think to yourself "I'll 'ave im no sweat" and what cars do you steer clear of?

Vauxhall VX-R
Golf Mk5 Ed30
Audi S3
BMW 130i/135i
Volvo C30 2.5
Ford Focus ST
Renault Sport Megane R26
Civic Type R
Mitsi Evo 8/9/10
Scooby WRX STi

All competitors, all capable in the hands of the right people. Leon can cut it with most except probably the Evo, but we are talking OE spec.

*Apologies - me being a tw@t: thought you meant Mk2 Cupra - IGNORE

the new cupra standard will outrun a rs focus, let alone a st, surely?

not sure on the new ones, but deffo a standard for stnadard mk1 lcr
0-60mph is 5.9 according to autocar mag i think it was i had one a year ago and they were quick in a straight line and excellent going round bends,
fitted a 4 branch manifold, decat, dreamscience remap and it made 286bhp a right animal,in the dry it was excellent!

I'll try again (after my feck up in my last post above):

Most of what I have quoted above are current crop of competitors. I forgot to quote Mini Cooper Works in that list too.

The problem the Leon Cupra has is the suspension is 'old technology', and they are starting to show signs of age. If they have been well maintained, and are running decent suspension components then they could still mix it with some of the above. My mate has a 52 plate Leon Cupra with 55k on the clock, unmapped, and its still a quick car. However cars like the Leon Cupra Mk2 have so much more mechanical grip. The grip from the new platforms astonishes me.

I return to the point that in the right hands its a very capable car, and wouldn't be deeply embarrased by any of the above.

cupra r`s ;)

pulsar round my way running around 350bhp ... keep level but the moment theres a hint of a slight curve in the track its bye bye

std cupra 20vt would rival atra gsi turbo, clio 172,mgZR160,golf GTI,bmw 323i,none of these would be much different in a straight line next to the leon.
once its remapped and a few other bits youll scare a few of those on that list.

Mini Cooper S Works mate, The cooper Works were only 130bhp;)

My old Toledo 20VT was easily capable of living with hot hatches of its era, but it would need to be breathed on by a tuner to live with the likes of todays equivalents like the MK2 Leon Cupra, Ashtray VXR etc.

There's no modern hot hatch I'd steer clear of CTR/ST/182 etc. A bit weary of things like gti-rs etc. as they're more often than not running silly power. Most later Evos (except the 260) would be a problem.

Thinking about it, I've never had anything pull away convincingly tbh, a Boxster S had the edge but wasn't alot in it. I know it has the edge over S2000s though.

Some guy on here made them in all colours, can't remember his name though. Maybe have a search.

I struggled against a Clio 172 the other day in my std LC,
Not happy

I wouldn't be too disappointed mate. Even cars with 300bhp don't pull much on cars with say 250bhp. It takes so much more power/torque to make a car keep accelerating much faster than another, especially when drag and weight are taken into account. The Renault may be a good bit lighter. Its all pretty much of a muchness. I'd distrust anyone who says their car pull miles on another of similar engine size unless they have significant mods.
