Hi everyone,

I wondered if anyone has had the same problem as me, my 02 LC has the engine fault light come on, I connected the VAG COM and this is what it come up with: 16795/P0411/001041 - Secondary Air Injection System: Incorrect Flow Detected .

I reset it but now it has come back on, I went on a ross tech website and it said the symtoms are:

Possible Solutions
  • Check Fuel Pump Relay (J17)
  • Check Hoses/Pipes to/between Components
  • Check Secondary Air Injection Pump (V101)
  • Check Secondary Air Injection Pump Relay (J299)
  • Check Secondary Air Injection Solenoid Valve (N112)

The car has a custom code stage 1 chip installed. I had a look around the car but couldnt find anything wrong with it.

any help would be greatly appreciated????

Thanks Ben.

Does the light stay off with those valves removed , and does it still drive ok?

I don't know much about this but I was at my mates garage at the weekend and he was faulting a 2.0 Beetle with exactly this error. The secondary air injection is apparently something to do with cold starts that helps the cat warm up quicker to reduce emissions, hence you won't have issues in normal driving. When warm, the light might reset and stay off, but the next cold start is likely to bring it back on again.

Like I said, just happened to be in the right place at the right time for this one and have no idea how to fix it or anything like that! I don't even understand fully what I'm typing but it is how it was explained to me when I asked - Hope it helps!

Mine had this fault, the secondary air pump was leaking (very badly), there is a guide to fix it somewhere on this site. Mine was fine after I fixed the leak.

I dont suppose you where you go the info o fix it would ya iv been looking for ages to try and sort this out, but have had no luck?

Just did a quick search for SECONDARY PUMP FIX in Leon Mk1 and voila (link in the 1st post):

Just a side note, I've been running with this error for a few years now, VAGtech had a brief stab at fixing it by replacing a load of pipework from a donor engine but to no avail. I was told it's a bit of a mare (read £) to track down and not a major problem which to a lazy arse like me meant I've just lived with it, biggest problem is the Management light is always lit so when another problem crops up there's no warning. I've often wondered if the secondary air pump leak would cause this and after joely's reply i think I'll have a stab at this myself.

Well my secondary air pump was making a right old racket, it wasn’t until it got a lot worse (after about 2 years!) that the management light came on (and stayed on), than I thought I’d better do something about it. I used that same guide to do mine, it’s a fairly straight forward job but be warned it can be a bit tricky and you will need a box of plasters! Now mine is very quite on start up.

My car isnt noisy at all though, it may have a small leak which causes the light to come on but no noise at all. I will check at the weekend though.

I havn't read the whole thread but I thought the resistor sorted it or there was a fix for the management light?.

No. I've had mine removed & resistored for a while. I think the front Llamda detects and triggers the fault code under a certain set of circumstances. It does for me.

(Mind you, 550cc injectors idling may have something to do with it on mine :D )

Damn, oh well mine is not bothering me for now so I'll leave it be :)
I don't fancy trying to remove all the SAI pipework and related gubbins. I wouldn't know where to start even with a guide

Having the exact same code pop up on mine, can be cleared off but no doubt it'll come back after a day or two. I've noticed that it no longer makes a dump noise when the revs drop once the cat is warmed up like it used to, it also makes a small sucking and whining noise after a couple minutes when I'm ready to set off driving.

Haven't had much luck finding a solution, people have suggested removing or disconnecting but if i'm still left with an engine warning light why bother? Cheer guys

Only real solution is to have it mapped out. Removal is really just to free up space in the engine bay and save a few KG.
