Well, after my last HU went bang, I treated myself of the new(ish) iDA-X100 from Alpine.

Since having an iPod ready HU i've not had the need to CD's, so thought I'd get this unit as I don't really need a CD drive now.

I have to say that it is a really pleasent HU to use, and the responce from the Pod while connected is very quick...almost as fast as when in hand!

The colour match to the LC dash is pretty good too, altho the red backlight for the buttons is a shade too dark...

Can out the box with a USB lead & connector, so there is no need for the KCE-422i lead (as long as you have a later gen Pod), so is pretty much plug & play!

All the usual pre-out's & hi/lo filters that come with the better spec Alpine units these days, which is more than enough for me as I'm not really an ICE monster (no space with push-chairs etc).

I know some don't like the Alpine "sound", but this is my 5th HU now, and I like the output, and certainly the ability of this HU with my Pod.

Might tempt myself with a Stelthbox & Focal sub if bank balance permits just to add a bit more punch to the overall sound.

So there's my 10 pence worth...

Happy reading...and listening more me ;)

Alpine x100 is the best ipod headunit available. And if you dont like the sound get imprint loaded. :D

I fully agree. Had mine installed for a couple of weeks, and apart from one ipod freeze (error 3 on the HU, simple ipod reset solved it), had no problems whatsoever.

Perfectly happy with the sound quality compared with the Kenwood I had in there before although gonna upgrade the door speakers when I have a go at curing my small lake in the rear passenger footwell while the door cards are off!! The interface is excellent, really easy to use and having the album art displayed is a nice touch.:D

Here are a couple of pics I took.

Been reading up on this Imprint stuff.

Do I just need a PXA-H100 or KTX-H100 as well to get the whole thing working...

Alpine website says only needs PXA unit.

are you still liking the x100? :)

i'm after upgrading my HU ad can't decide over the x100 or the Pioneer DEH-7000UB! Yes the pioneer is slightly cheaper, but that little screen looks lush!

Have you any pics of the x100 installed mate?

Yeah still loving it...

I'll get some pic's later on today once it's a bit darker...I'd highly recommend it if you use an iPod as much as I.

Going to have a play with the Imprint processor I got today hopefully.

Couple of pictures in my post above, just click the links. Shows it with red backlight, matches the dash pretty well.

sorry, missed those pics! It looks real nice mate! Colours seem to match well and that screen is real purty :)

Just a quicky...i'm no expert on this stuff, but can you have a hdd AND an ipod connected? Plus, how easy is it to install? I've never done one before but like to think i'm ok with techie stuff :)

Not sure if you can have an hdd hard-wired as such, but the ipod connects via adapter to the usb lead (usb both ends) which is connected to the headunit. You could connect an hdd (not sure about powering it) or flash drive (no problem with power) to the usb lead (without the ipod adapter or ipod) and maybe play the files this way.

From looking at the manual, files on an external device other than ipod may be tricky to navigate through

If you listen to MW stations, 5 live etc.. then I'd say yes, and depending on the quality of your FM reception then maybe. I haven't, but on the rare occasion I do listen to the radio, Radio 1 and one of our local stations, I dont have a problem. I get no MW reception at all! But being in Jersey, i'm never more than about 5 miles away from the radio masts!!!!!!

straight swap, if you also have the fascia adapter (aura unit is alot bigger than standard). Just make sure you plug the red wire into yellow wire and vice-versa otherwise it wont retain any settings. took me about 10 mins and ive never done it before!

cant help with the changer im afraid

you have to buy the adapter separately. The factory stereo is pretty wide at the front and stretches right across the console. Aftermarket units are not as wide, so there are facia adapters (they have them at caraudiodirect) to make the unit fit properly.

I posted up some pictures in this thread showing where I located my ipod....going to take a few night shots later. :)

In case anyone is interested, you can change the wallpaper/background image on these players.

You can't just upload jpegs to the unit though, they need to be converted into a special format. BUT! :) There's a nice online tool to help you do it.

Check out:

http://www.riotcreative.co.uk/tools/AlpineConverter.aspx

You just upload a pic and it resizes it and converts it to the alpine format!

It even gives you a preview of your picture in the player.

Nice!
