Just drilling some small holes in the bottom of the airbox with a drill bit. People do it mainly for the noise. You might get a bit of heat soak but shouldn't be too much if you don't go silly with the holes. I've drilled the bottom of my LCR box with 9 x10mm holes. Not fitted it as yet but I do have much bigger airfeed sorted, smoothed box and panel filter.
What if you drilled them in the top, i thought it may give a little better throttle response (maybe very little) as it wouldnt only be coming through the filter so its not so much of a vacume, maybe a little heat soak again but not too much surley
did mine, i put about 20 holes around the 14mm mark, sounds lush... just gotta get a panel filter now then ill look at sorting out a decent cold air feed.
