Yes, the car definitely had more urgency about her - it was a lovely feeling coming out of the pit lane and accelerating hard towards the first corner. Mofre noticable though is the fuel economy. The tyres don;t feel right at the moment though - not sure if it is me being over sensitive but at times over the past day or so it feels like I am driving on flats or with the handbrake half on.... need to check the pressures tonight....

I would be very keen to meet up for a track day or two next summer. I should have 2 piece discs on by then and a few other bits and pieces sorted out. Lets have a look and see what SCN have planned for 2009 and see what we can fit in. I'm sure there are a few other Scottish boys looking for track days next year.Hi JS,
I have just posted a breakdown of yesterday on your other post. I have a long way to go with track skills... that was only my 6th day - i am a long way off being happy with my performance. I get too excited and the speed creeps up and my technical accuracy goes down.
The tyres were dropped to 29 at the front (from 33) and 30 at the rear - they had risen to 34 after the first session so I returned them to 33 all round while they were still hot and let them naturally cool. After my spin I dropped the backs a bit to give me some grip. The bloke in the M3 had the Ultras in black with R888s on and I think that is my next purchase (possibly early 2009). I was able to leave him on corners due to my powerband but he just had so much more grip than little old me.
I'll have a think about the SBs and ARBs, the car feels better having been transformed into an Estate but the body roll is evident and the shots I posted show the kind of movement I was getting through corners. I am hesitant to spend money on her as I am effectively masking my own inability. i would rather get better and then see the difference in the way the car handles through being smoother and more technically accurate around the track. if that makes sense - I think that is a better way to go....

PMSL, sorry childish humour kicking inYou make a very good point, it's weird to think a thicker ARB would make such a difference. Now that I have no back seats I think I do need to restore a little rigidity to the back of the car.... ooooooooooh so many decisions!!!

Rear spacers will widen the rear stance (obviously) there fore make thew back end more stable.
Why did you put your good tyres to the front, you really should have your best tyres on the rear as tail out action is more difficult to control than understeer.
I think the R888's will make a huge difference, them and the SB and rear ARB and you will notice a huge difference.

If your finding that your sliding about in your seat a CG lock is a must.

Well Oliver I don't know much about these but what I would look into is the prices.Problem solved by a mere flick of the belt near the pillar once I have tightened it up. Lean into it and then slide the seat forward one notch. Advantage is that it holds you both directions rather than the CG-Lock which only locks the lap part of the belt. Plus I have heard rumours of CG-Locks fraying belts.
Next door neighbour sold his as he preferes the grip of the flicked belt approach...
I have just saved myself £40 which i can put towards my new 6 pot Porsche calipers!!!! Next decision is whether AP racing calipers are better than Porsche ones.... Over to you JS....![]()

Well, in my head I thought put the tyres with the best grip on the front! My buttock clenching spin-off leads me to wonder if it was such a good idea! I wasn;t sure about spacers as I like as small a number of parts as possible. Plus when I had spacers onthe front before I realised I didn't need them for the OZs to clear the brembos they were p155ing fidly to line up to get the wheel back on...
R888s are definitely on my Christmas list - I think Christmas would be a good time to buy too as they should all be in stock and possibly cheaper than next year when track season starts again.....
You are determined to get an ARB and SB on my car!My issue is that there is so much I would ike to do but as I said yesterday I don't want to mask my own inability with car trickery. If I can learn to handle and control the car without gadgets to keep me on a straight line then although it is rather brave (and foolish maybe) of me I would like to see my self get better and it not be down to how much i spend on toys if it makes sense... and breath!

Well Oliver I don't know much about these but what I would look into is the prices.
ie
How much to buy the set up new?
How much for replacement discs?
How easy is it to get 2 piece set up for each?
Where can these part be bought?
How much do each weight?
I wouldn't be bought over by looks, although they do look great, I go for purely functional reasons as above.
Do you feel like you need better brakes?

I appreciate your patience, you have probably realised by now that i am alittle excitable when it comes to stuff like this and I need people like you and my trackman to bring me back to earth. Bottom line is I am unhappy with my callipers and the braking can never be good enough. The fact I need new discs and pads etc in Jan I reckon I could get the new set-up, make some money back on mine and end up not spending too much more than it would have cost me just for discs and pads....
I will do the numbers and let you know, I haven't had the courage to apprach my trackman about it as he will inevitably poo poo the idea as unnecessary![]()
Great clip and I think you make a valid point in wet conditions but in the dry worn rears will not be too detramental to the handling. I will check the tread depths this weekend as the worn tyres did get me a warning on my MOT so I may be due sooner than I anticipated at which point the rears will have the new rubber and all will be well!
It may cost me the car and a few broken bones but I would like to master track days on my own merit and skill. It is bullish and arrogant but I want to get really good at this, I am a bit mad about how poor I was on Monday so i need to pull my socks up - drive my own track and stop getting caught up in other peoples lines and battles to overtake.
Might be worth popping down during the night - see if I can sneak on with it all to myself![]()
