Sorry to bug in and hi-jack your Thread here......it's been a wile since if been on the Forum, but since we are on the topic of OIL may I please ask a question.......(pls dont laugh at me).

I drive a 2007 Cupra TDI since new and had it Serviced this week and the Dealer overfilled the oil in the car.

My question is: when (at what level/or by how much) is overfill, overfill??? How much overfill is allowed before running into trouble.......by 500ml or 1liter or or or ?????

If I have to quess I would say the my car was overfilled by about 400-700ml.....

Please help!

Assuming the car was parked on the level when you measured it, I'd take it back to your dealer and let them worry about it. Unless you've got a vacuum oil extractor, then it's a messy affair for you to do when it's the dealer's fault...

Accourding to the dealer its not a problem........I spoke to the Service manager and he said....(wait for it) he always overfill on the cars to try an compensate for oil usage!!!!

So you think I must rather try and drain off some of the excess OIL....?

Will look into it, but I'm still upset about this! :censored:Damm Dealers

Well I'd have a read in your manual, and look under the bonnet to see if there are any warning stickers about not overfilling with oil...if there are, point them out to your service manager and ask for your car to be looked after as per the manufacturers guidelines, and not his own views !

After the first service, my Ibiza TDI never used any oil between services....

I made a stink about it, and as I test oil I went prepared with a oil analysis on the used oil in my engine. I told them that the additive levels were depleted for a new oil and told them to carry out a full service (which they did - again lol).

My handbook says:-

'On no account should the oil level be above area (c - yellow line on my pic). Otherwise oil can be drawn into the engine via the crankcase breather and escape into the atmosphere via the exhaust system. Vehicles fitted with a CAT, the oil could burn inside the CAT causing it to become damaged'

Not sure if that means there could be potential enviromental problem by overfilling or it will cause mechanical problems.

Anywhere between the bends on the dipstick is fine. The small amount you've been overfilled by (and it's minimal really in volume terms) shouldn't cause any ill effects. If I were you I'd run with it and wait til it drops to the correct level and then keep it topped up at that level.

I'd be more concerned that the dealer has actually put the correct oil in than the level of it to be honest. :D But of course, you're right to be annoyed at the dealers. I was livid when mine was overfilled, but the big issue with me was the 15w 40 mineral crap they put in, because "no one told us it needed special oil..."

Same here in SA....we had to find out the hard way that our TDI's need a more special oil(507) to the normal VA PD TDI engine (505)...........

It is the right oil......just the oil level that scares me! :D
