ibiza gone!!!

right i'm still getting up to speed with all my ibiza issues and need a little help please...

when i got the car ( just over a month ago) it was advertised as being revo'd, it came with loads of receipts but none for any kind of remap. after driving it home i decided it probably wasn't mapped at all. when i got it home i popped the engine cover off to have a better look at things, i discovered several split vacuum lines and a knackered recirc valve so put some samco vac line on and a forge valve on it straight away, took it out for a spin and it was boosting alot better which given the power delivery raised suspision that it had actually been revo'd.

is there any way i can tell if it has and or what company may have done it? the thing thats bothering me is i'm planning to upgrade my turbo, fpr, injectors, dp and fmic hoping to acheive 300bhp ish which will need another map.

i understand that a few companies 'write lock' the ecu? a good mate of mine owns his own tuning/remap company and i can get it done for well under half price of a revo etc, he also has vag com so i'd be stupid not to go for him.

if it has been revo'd etc how do i know?

would i be better off getting a standard ecu getting that remapped and selling mine on?

he has all the software to allow me to fit an ecu from another car (i'm not sure whats involved)

any help would be great, thanks.

I am actually not sure you can check if a car has been mapped. I know that Myki drove his for who knows how long with in his sig "map unknown"...

There are other ways to check though. Obvious way would be getting it on the rollers but thats costly.

So what I would start with is plug in a boost gauge and see how much it boosts to.
Regular boost is peak 0.6bar (don't know in psi but get it converted via google) and it should hold a good 0.4-0.5bar

Remap iirc should be near 1.0 bar

I know that won't tell you what map you have but its a start

in your case, you're going big turbo so you need to remap it stage 2/3 anyway, so doesn't really matter what map you have now. Unless you want to upgrade it that is, but you can get it cheap via your mate so you're not going to do that...

the problem is if it's locked then my mate can't map my ecu over the current program so when i upgrade turbo etc i'll have to either get standard ecu and map that or get the company who has mapped mine to upgrade it........

the only way he says he can tell apart from how much boost it's running ( i need a guage) is when he tries to upload a new map it will tell him it's locked out?

where would i get a standard chip? would it not be easier to get a whole replacement ecu (standard) and get that mapped?

then i could always sell mine on......? or maybe even px for a standard one?

i think a new ecu will set you back a lot. don't know how much exactly but read on here once that they are around 800 quid..?

:headhurt: maybe i should look into finding someone who is looking to get theirs remapped and offer them a swap with mine plus cash.....:help:

but if youre not sure if it is mapped or not why sell it to some1 for them to have the same trouble? am sure that hardly any1 locks the ECU's now so remapping over it shouldnt be a problem.

if i found someone who had a standard ecu and was seriously interested in a deal then i'd buy a program/map same spec/level as what i belive i have, then try and upload it on to my current ecu which i expect will say it is locked out as it more than likely is revo'd.

then swap my ecu with the standard item and put the map on to that so i'd be free to upgrade the map in future using my mate without having to go to revo and pay nearly triple what i can get it for.

as mentioned above i have to buy the program/map/file wether i use it or not, so if mine isn't ( i'm fairly sure it is) it'll go on to that, if not i can put it onto a swapped standard ecu.

he says he has tried to remap a few vag turbo's which have been revo'd and they're all locked.

I'm 99% sure that Revo don't lock their maps - best bet would be to ask in the Revo section of the forum - failing that a dealer should be able to flash your ECU back to factory standard for you - again worth asking your local dealer :)

can't you turn the revo map on and off with that select swtich they have. so if you find someone with a switch and it makes your car slower then its revo'd and if it does nothing then it aint ?

or am i just making it up lol! someone tell me ?

When I bought my Ibiza it wasn't boosting properly and claimed to have a Revo map from TDi North, so I took it to my local specialist Big Boys Toys in Thurrock and they had it on the computer, checked the remap for free then discovered I had a split hose somewhere and need a new MAF sensor. Less than an hour later I was sorted :)

what i would do is get it on vag-com, log it and see what it's boosting at. that way you can see whether it's been mapped before or not. then if you're going to get it mapped anyway, i'd swap it with someone for a standard one. that's what i did and it paid most of the way towards my stage-2!

^^^^ What he said.

Also any decent mapper should have the tools to be able to overwrite your current map (if you have one) unless its a physical chip, in that case i think it would need to be changed and a standard one installed and then mapped.

And to back that up more... if your "mate" claims that he can't overwrite revo maps, then he's not got the knowledge to fill people with confidence that he could successfully scale a map for bigger MAF's & injectors.

be wary of those offering too much too cheap - you could do the same with some cheap ass tools from ebay, but it wouldn't be a complete solution.
