Rear Strut brace Advice.

Have done a search and sort of got some information just wanting clarification before i purchase one.

Looking on rally design and on strut bracer.

will that just bolt on? or do i need to drill holes etc..
Or do all the rear braces need holes drilled. If so is it hard? couldn;t see a how to guide anywhere.

If that picture is correct it does not look like it just bolts to it.


Any help would be much appreciated. Probably me just being stupid lol.

the rear one from strut bracer will fit mate you just need to trim the rear quarters a little but there is a post on this with pics but yeah i got that one in red so can same it bolts straight on.. if this is any help

Great help mate. Cheers for that. By trim you mean the carpet kinda bit that goes up the turret bit?
I have seen a few threads but couldn't find one that actually shown how it joined. They all show them fitted but you can just see it going inside the carpet and now how its fitted lol.

Will order tonight if its just a case of trimming the carpet.

You can get ones that just sit on top of the dampers/coilovers and others that bolt into the side of the strut housing, requiring that you trim the carpet and drill it into place.

Personally I chose one that bolts into the side of the strut housing as I don't see how the ones that sit on top of the dampers are actually doing anything

all you need to do is trim the plastic bit that sits directly above the brace very easy

Get the one from strut bracer. All you have to do to fit is take off the rubber cap that covers the bolt for your strut, take off the top bolt on each side, slip the brace on, tighten the bolts back on. You may need to trim the plastic rear quarter, but just the bit that comes down over the strut (the pointless bit) although I didn't have to because I have my car stripped

Robbie C: I agree with you there, cant see the benefit of fitting strutbrace on the top bolt of the dampers... do you know where to get the "proper" brace from???

I bought a RAID HP one from Ebay (they only sell on there via an online shop) for a MK1 Golf GTI. This one has holes at each end to be drilled into the strut itself - which in my eyes makes it much more effective. Only problem is it didn't come with bolts but they're easy enough to get hold of

AFAIK, you need one for either a mk3 golf or mk4 polo or something
