Hi,

I've been searching here for a while now trying to find the main differences between the Cupra & FR. I've read lots about the Cupra having a bigger turbo than the FR and was wondering if anyone could tell me the manufacturer and model (or similar) of turbos that SEAT use in the FR and Cupra.

I'd also be interested in knowing what boost the FR and Cupra run as standard and whether the cupra has any other uprated engine components over the FR?

Bigger turbo, aluminium wishbones, uprated internals over the FR, and afew others from the various marketing spiels. Exact diffs probably won't filter out for another 6 - 12 months when cupras are taken apart and compared.
 
I take it we are talking about petrol models only here?
 
Thanks for the info guys, is the K03s an official Borg Warner model or a VAG hybrid, possibly using a K04 Compressor or a roller bearing instead of journal bearing? I can find references to the K03 and K04 but not the K03S?
 
the turbo's are all in one manifold parts, so I'd not imagine they're interchangeable

I think APR US have a k04 bolt on for the 2.0TFSi ~ 200bhp model

Thats correct, they also, and VF engineering, have big turbo kits coming out soon based on Garret GT28's
 
Ah, the T28 is a turbo I'm more familiar with :) I'd assume they'll be basing it on the Garrett GT2860RS then.

Does the K03 & K04 run 9psi & 14psi as standard (respectively)?

Shooting for the 400bhp mark are they then? I'm looking for a reliable car next, I think I'd be happy with an FR if I knew I could eventually tune it to 250bhp reliably.
 
a FR goes to 250 with just a remap mate.

The Big turbo kits are 350 with standard internals and 400 with uprated.

If you log it (with Vag-Com) the Cupra TFSI K04 turbo runs at 1.0-1.1 bar (approx. 14.7 psi) constant pressure rather than the 0.8 bar claimed in magazines with essentially no overboost ...:)

Is that a conservative remap? i.e. no components are beeing overly stressed, like injectors running close to max duty etc?
 
yes thats pretty standard. Stage two map takes it up to 270 or more with the standard turbo etc.
 
Necroposting a bit here.
270 with the k03s is just not possible, and certainly not reliable. You'll be happy to get that with the k04.
 
That's the 2.0 TFSI engine, not our old 1.8T's :)
Those 200cc of displacement make a huge difference.
We have Mk2 Cupra's running 350bhp in the danish Seat Club, all without going overkill on the boost.
There's no replacement for displacement ;)
