Cupra remaps vs New Leon instead!?

Hey folks!

In a dilemma at the moment, drove a Leon at the weekend, and really like the idea of buying a Leon Cupra...On the other hand, i'd need at least another £6-7k on top of what I sell my car for, so im now deciding on whether to just go in for a AMD Powerpack remap/exhaust/filter upgrade they do for £499.

I remember on my 2001 Cupra, a remap was an incredible difference from standard, is this still the case on the 180bhp cupra? (AMD's one goes to 210bhp).

It's a tough one deciding whether the cost (ok £499 vs 6-7k is a no brainer lol) but also when you factor in whether the insurance will rise heavily etc and the Leon Cupra is 240bhp standard, and I wouldn't touch that - i'd leave it totally as standard.

Anyone have any input - I guess this being in the Ibiza section more will suggest to keep the Ibiza...?

Why not get it remapped etc, keep it for another year or so then look for a leon cupra after. When i had my Ibiza remapped i couldn't believe the difference it made as for the insurance if you are with a specialist insurance broker like Greenlight they don't increase your premium for remaps. As for how a remapped Ibiza compares to a standard Leon Cupra i couldn't say, i should imagine it'd be a close run thing but although you say you wouldn't mod the Leon, if the bug bites you'll easily have 300bhp.

I read in the AMD powerpack thread that the exhaust is mild steel, is this still the case if so i'd be a bit worried that it may rust in time, if you were to go for it it might be worth upgrading to stainless.

You can get 240bhp from a Stage 2 on the Cupra with a full milltek and Forge TIP and it already has the FMIC. Depends how much you want to spend...I'd love a mk2 Leon Cupra but wouldn't spend that much on it personally.

Just think about new car depreciation and how much you will be able to buy one in a year or so! I would remap etc your Cupra and enjoy that for a bit, then think about a Mk2 Leon in a year.

In fairness, on my last Cupra (2001 MK3) all I had was a Revo map + forge recirc, and it was great.
The stock exhaust rusted off so I replaced it with a supersprint, which was good but a little quiet!

On this one, i'd prob prefer just the recirc, remap and a decent exhaust (not TOO loud - I may live in Essex but I don't want to be branded part of the Corsa and Saxo brigade lol)
Is the Miltek loud? (I'd only want cat-back).

It's not loud in a Corsa/Saxo way I have non-res and it is a little deeper and sporty sounding most of the time, but when the revs hit 3200k it gives a real nice sound Still not boomy or anything. The resonated version is quieter if you are concerned. Neither will give any real performance increase unless you add the downpipe and cat tho.

get a full exhaust, Forge TIP, Forge 007p DV and a filter and get a stage 2 map. You'll get 230-240bhp and 245-270lb/ft and it will transform the way the car drives.

Keep the Ibiza and go stage 2. Wait a few years to get a Leon and you will probably save 6k.

Hey folks - honestly, I don't want to spend anything that would cost like the stage 2 would - I know it would completely transform the car, but im of the school of thought that i'd rather buy a stock 240bhp car, than tune a 180bhp car into 240bhp.

Im reluctant to spend even £500 on it if im honest, simply because I know i'll be modifying it, cutting down the sales market who would buy it when I came to sell it.

A decent exhaust and remap will cost about £650-750 im still caught in two minds, I wouldn't be buying a brand new Leon Cupra, but nearly new (2008 model).
So possibly around £13k-14k

Depending on how much I sold the Ibiza for would determine that, it's only done 20k with a FSH.

My current car is a 2006 model, im looking for newer Leon Cupra, hence the 2008 - i'd never buy a car older than my current car (so in a years time, i'd still be be buying a 2009 model if that makes sense?)

I think you have just answered your own question there mate. Buy the Leon.

You will mod the Leon cupra

And if you did remap the beeza you can always revert it back to stock, and the type of person that would most likely buy your cupra in a private sale would proably not care about the remap!
