Here's a dilemma :

I have had my Cupra exactly 1 year but have only done 2500 miles from new.

Now the "Service now" alert keeps coming up on the MFD.

I had the oil and filter changed (even though it wasn't required by the service shedule) by SEAT dealer after my first 2200 miles trip to france last summer.

So do I realy need to pay for a service ? According to manual, first service is 10,000 miles. It seems absurd.

I wonder what others think ? What would you do ?

Service interval is 10k miles or 12 months, whichever comes first. I know the car hasn't done the mileage but I would probably get it done, just for the sake of it. Plus, if you have only done 300 miles since last summer going to France having the car standing so much isn't doing it much good so a check over again wouldn't hurt

Thanks for that...but I forgot to mention, I started paying for VW Finance service package then pulled the plug after about 8 months as I realised I wasn't doing the miles.

I take the car out for a regular warm up & country drive to keep it all working and charged up, it's working nicely apart from the AFS Warning (see seperate thread) and the oil looks brand new.

A service is going to cost me a bomb, and I doubt the car needs it ?

I want to avoid, - Would this affect warranty ? Does anyone know for sure ?

Without the stamp in the service book it will void the warranty.

I can't remember them doing much more to mine than just an oil change, so technically the car is probably okay but you will have broken the rules of warranty and maybe finance agreement if the car is on finance. The cost of the 10K service by the way is about £180.

Could also make the car difficult to sell privately if you don't get the service done.

I paid £135 and they had the car in the workshop for a whole 30mins!! It stood there beforehand for 1 hr while i waited. So frustrating could have had it serviced opposite my work at Alfa specialist i know for £40 but as said wanted the SEAT stamp.

Doubt the car needs it as you said but you need the stamp.

I should also say I have the most pampered SEAT in history, it sits in a heated warm dry garage in my new house, and only goes outdoors for one it's "Warm-up laps & qualifying runs" :D

Thanks for your input guys...you are depressing me though !

I wonder if the SEAT maintenance deal would have paid for the service at just 1 year ?

No buddy, - what I meant was that I told SEAT in Milton Keynes I was cancelling my service agreement with them on the grounds of me not doing enough miles to justify the cost of the maintenance plan, so if they would have paid for the service at 1 year anyway irrespective of mileage, then they should have told me, - I would have grounds for a complaint there surely ? :(

I was replying to post #9.

Hope you get it sorted.

The service schedule states that an oil change service is due every 10,000 miles or one year - whichever is soonest and a maintenance service every 20,000 or 1 year - whichever is soonest.

Unfortunately, there's no way around this if you want to keep the manufacturers warranty intact.

The system helps high mileage drivers like myself as I only pay for a 'proper' service every other time, but low mileage drivers will suffer

They should have pointed out if that made no difference.

I also made it clear on the documentation that the car would not cover more than 5000 miles per year and that is recorded on the original forms.

And I doubt that we all read every page of our service manual, when we buy a brand new car, now do we ...?

That doesn't sound entirely right for the Leon.

SEAT don't split the oil change service like some manufacturers do.

It is service every 10K or 12 months. You wouldn't say have a oil change at 10,000 miles after say 10 months and then a maintence service at 12,000 miles and 1 year like your post suggests could happen (maybe it a typo on the maintence service).

My Audi could pontential have that situtaion, but a SEAT wouldn't.

The 10K is classed as a service rather than just an oil change, even though i don't think it is much more than that.

My service was £150 at David Cook in Oldham and that was for a 20k, I think thier Oil / filter change is 99 quid worth having it for the stamp and the warranty or why buy a new car in the first place. I think even though you have not done the miles?? and not a million miles from Cheshire and a nice bit of a run for it.

Trust me - that's the guidance in the service book - check it out.

The Audi is different, you're right - as I have the Audi on longlife servicing which SEAT don't offer. I wasn't mentioning that to try and save confusion!
