Hi all,

I was driving along today and was wondering what the life expectancy for a Modified MK1 Cupra would be? Really just for the main items like engine, clutch, gearbox, turbo etc.

Currently running at 96000 miles with a Revo stage 2 remap, 4 bar fpr, APR 3" exhaust, stratmosphere DV.

Any ideas would be great. Doesn't get driven that hard.

Cheers,

Peter.

The problem with having a remapped car is you tend to ues the orque more for accelerating from low down the revs therefore wearing out your clutch more. The engines if treated to good oil and regular services should be fine for 200,000 miles +. Same with the gear box.

This is a very interesting topic. I had wandered the same thing more so now as i plan on getting a cupra and maybe looking into a re-map in the future.

i rememeber a previous member with a similar spec to yours running 140k+ miles with no major issues if that helps

Careful - one of the mods once had a hissy fit:duck: because I suggested that remapped LCs/LCRs can be/perhaps/maybe/possibly prone to premature clutch-wear!!

iv had problem after problem with mine...
immediately i knew the paint was faded so i set about getting the respray asap.
a month after i bought it my clutch went, bought a new one,g ot that fixed.
then i had 2 collapsed hoses, got them fixed.
then had 3 leaky door seals wich i noticed after pissing down with rain, got them fixed.
then my window wipers stopped working, in the process of getting that fixed
then i lost a coilpack, in the process of getting that fixed.
then i realised my temp guage sensor is fooked, going to ignore that.
next i dont hear my turbo spooling up as good as it should...gotta get that fixed :(

Do not ignore the temp sensor, it will wreck your turbo (sounds like may have).

Its an easy and cheap fix, details on these forums.

yeah im going to sort that out the now.

fixed all of the above.
more for the list.

rear demister stopped working. cant fix it..
rear boot locked me out. got that fixed
glovey jammed on me. got that fixed.
camshaft sensor messed up. got that fixed.
rocker cover gasket leaked 3x. got it fixed + replaced.
now my camshaft adjustment valve has gone belly up on me. going to get that sorted.

iv forgotten why im posting this but here ya go :p

life of the turbo depends on what pressure has been put on it, what oil has been used and regular servicing/oil changes and how hard its been driven. id expect maybe around 100k. but everyone is going ot be different and could fail early or last ages.

clutch depends on how its been driven aswel and torque/power such as a remap would wear the clutch more than a standard lc/r. clutches can fail at anytime but you normally notice it slipping first but pressure plate can break, and clutch release bearing can fail.

gearbox ive heard the selector fork breaks and thats pretty common. also when i replaced my clutch noticed the 1st motion shaft seal leaking a tiny tiny bit so i replaced this while box was out.

had a few problems with coil packs, but every car has problems and wont last forever so its just a matter of when they fail and that could be at any time.
