I have been offered a 2003 03 Tdi sport with 103k and supposed to have a fsh. It's only priced at 2.4k so not expensive. Would anybody take a punt at something with this milage on it? I will be using it for a 60 mile commute everyday so i can stop clocking up the miles on my Evo.
Good price.I'd buy it.Make sure it's had a recent cam belt and water pump change though.And it's had the right oil used.
Check all the necessary bits..... brakes, tyres, bodywork (inside and out), service history stamps and receipts if provided (SEAT History?), check for cambelt replacement twice and also that the brake fluid has been replaced. Press every available button and get out to see they work. Check clutch engages well and in top gear at low speeds put your foot to the floor (accelerator) and watch for any signs of clutch slip.
Check panel gaps on either side of the car are the same.
Drive it from cold for at least 1/2 an hour on differing types of roads.
If it makes no funny noises during the drive and all of the above is straight then it may have just been used for long journeys/motorway work.

Suspension is likely to get a bit tired and the front wishbone bushes will almost definitely need replacing, but so long as it's been serviced correctly with the right oil (v important) then I think they're a good buy. IMHO there's nothing else that can match the combination of performance, fuel economy, low insurance. I miss mine (so much so I owned it twice )

He has the history on it's way to him so i can check it. Does Seat have a Central service database like BMW and Audi?Suspension i knew would be on it's way out but i can change that no probs. Will only cost approx £60 for a 2nd hand set.

It should be ok. FSH, good condition, engine smooth, no odd noises. The one I was gnna buy was an m-way cruiser. It look ed ace. Un fortuneatly, money = not too much of it.

I know my mates dad's audi A3 (same 1.9tdi engine) has 170k mi on it and it's still going strong - The only major (non-wear) issue he's had since 2001 has been a water damaged ECU which needed replaced - never understood why they put the ECU under the scuttle panel!
I do a 80 mile round trip to work and have just had cam belt changed at 62K that is the only major thing I have had to worry about so that would be worth baring in mind as if you are doing 100 miles/day then its not going to be that long before you need another new one.

Offtopic: Mind sharing which company insures you on that S40 (if it's your policy that is)? I'm considering buying an old E36, with insurance being the only issue.
