I have never really turned the traction control off so thought i would have a play around over the weekend and all i can say is "oh my god" i didnt realise it was so intrusive .

Once i turned it off the drive became much more smooth , great power delivery no jerkiness no hesitations just a big grin on my face :)

went for a good run on Sunday and it was a joy , and my mpg is better too.

Today went out and forgot to turn it off and blasted down the road and the engine hesitated , i put my foot down and the power was cut with a big lartharjic motion , traction control on and off is a huge difference , i know how i will be driving from now on ! :whistle:
 
is the system the same as in the Audi where you can turn off the ESP/ASR, but there is still some electronic intervention (EBD/TCS/ABS).

I remember on a Top Gear sometime back they worked out if you press and held the button a number of time (for a certain length of time) it turned everything off. Not sure I'd want this particularly.

I find the ABS in the Audi a bit eager to kick in at times.

it certainly sucks power , not sure if its the same as the Audi , would think it would differ from a 4wd car?
 
At the end of the day though it's there for a reason - I think you'd be silly to turn it off for any other reason than track days and when your car is properly kitted out for it.

For every day around town driving it is fine , for motorway driving i will leave it in the on position , seriously try and see , dont you remeber what driving was like before traction control?

this is only my second car in the last 5 years to have it that means i have done 17 years of driving the old fashioned no traction control way.
 
If I'm driving round town I leave it on but when I know I'm going to have sone fun it's turned off straight away
 
Yep, don't forget you're switching off the ESP as well as traction control.

Also, I can't think of an reason why switching off the tc/esp would increase your MPG.
 
If you drive half sensibly it should be safe to turn it off anyway but you can never account for the ******** you have to swerve for and die. As for MPG, I'm with mnkiboy.
 
since getting the goodyear assy's on the car I hardly see the tcs/esp light as often when compared with the stock rubber.

Its amazing what a difference it makes though, you can get the cupra proper sideways with it off.
 
It's not all about the traction control though, the esp may keep you out of a tree or lamp-post....

Well from that viseo all you have is if you drive like a **** and turn all the saftey features off and its raining you are going to end up doind loop the loop.

well not being funny but i have driven cars since i was 17 which had no ABS , traction control of stability control , just cause the technology is there doesnt mean it makes you a good driver , the other thing is when you turn it off its not as intrusive its still on , in the video to turn all the things off they would need to pull fuses to tun them off permantley.

even when they turned the traction control off , btw this item was to just show what i have learnt on how intrusive the system really is and how it cuts down the power , with it off its smooth and very progressive , all i am saying is try it , doesnt mean you have to do it all the time or drive like a **** , its my thoughts nothing else.
 
I must admit I gave mine a blast this afternoon with the ESP off, and I was surprised at the difference it made when accelerating in 2nd gear. Most likely due to the rather tired pair of Toyo proxies currently gracing the front wheels of my Cupra.

Can't wait till I can get hold of a set of Goodyear F1's. Then hopefully the traction control won't feel the need to be cutting the power so much.
 
glad to hear it mate , tbh having the tyres wont make much difference well doesnt to mine , it seems to sense the power output and limit it acoordingly without even the tyres loosing traction.
 
If I want to make progress, ESP is turned off. If I am on an unknown/wet road making progress, ESP is turned on.
 
Are there any options in vag-com or similar for more finely-grained tweaking of the safety options? It would be nice to be able to turn off traction control and keep ESP etc active. Can't think of any good reason to turn ABS off, though...
 
I'd probably go as far as looking for an alternate route if confronted with a river in my path. Seek out a bridge or a tunnel maybe.
