i get baited a lot thinking mine's a 1.4 boyz motor as the only badges left are on the seats and i'm sat over one of em

last one was a very irate blond 1.0 micra driver ?? revving it up and poaching the lights like a loony, so i waited til she changed into 3rd after she hit limiter in 1st two and waved bye bye - lmfao

she collared me later that month asking if i had nitrous ?? freaky totty !!!

I am not in to badging cars up to be better than they are either, and as mentioned above, there would be insurance implications with having a Cupra or K1 badge fitted on any Leon with an Aero kit as they do look the same after all.

There is a local lad here who has a Yellow Leon Cupra with an Aero kit, and he added a K1 badge despite having the left hand exit Cupra exhaust and considering the K1 is nto available in yellow.

I had thought to put coloured tape on the bottom part of my front bumper and take off C U P R A and add FR as I have quite a history of defacing my cars :clown:

Toledo 20VT - 20VT removed
Passat TDI 110 badged as a TDI 90
Subaru Impreza Turbo badged as Sport
Civic VTi badged as LSi
Civic VTi badged as ESi
Astra 2.0 16v badged as 1.4 16v

Thats just as nuts badging as a lower model. How many times do you surprise people because they think your car is something else? The rest of the time people are under the impression it is actually the lower model.

ive got a 1.4 sport, tomorrow its having fr bumpers on it. dont think its sad at all. i cant afford an fr and the insurance is insane for someone my age. so whats wrong with having a nice looking car? im not chavving it up lol. just making it look better

Its not about putting the bumpers etc on your car thats sad it's when you stick the badges on.

Well i've debadged my car but only cause I want a stealthy black look, this means I have black mirrors not the FR silver...but that doesn't mean I'm trying to make it look like a cupra. I just like the look of them! I suppose everyone is to their own, there are those of us who like their car to look slower than it is so they can burn ppl at the lights, there are those of us who like to dress up their car so it looks faster than it is but then are left struggling to keep up with that saxo on the dual carriage way...I totally understand someone doing up their car cause they like how it looks, but i don't understand those who just want to make their car look more expensive or a better model because of 'Penis Envy' as Sigmund Freud would say.:cartman:

As long as the driver is happy with their car that is all that matters!

When I was about to debadge my car the only thing stopping me was thinking people might think i'd removed the badges only to hide the fact it was an FR and not a cupra.

But i think it looks nicer without the badges so took them off anyway.

I'd never big up my car with a badge that it wasn't.

Whats wrong with having an FR?!?!?!?!

IMO people who are in the know will know what you drive whether you have the badges or not. Theres no harm in making a car look like something else as long as you are realistic that a 1.6 will not be as fast as a Cupra, FR, K1 etc.

As for the K1 kit being exclusive to the Cupra well thats a bit laughable the only exclusive part is the centre exit exhaust, the kit has been available on the Reference sport and FR etc for 2 years or so now ;)

Nothing wrong with having an FR but people should be happy with what they have and not go sticking other badges onto it, pretending they are something they aren't.

Quite an interesting related fact is BMWs. Not sure if it is the same now but you used to get a factory option to delete the badge from the back and many people did this to make it look like they had a better model. There used to be no external difference between models just the badge, so a 316 onwer would delete the badge to make it look like they had a 325 of whatever.

The Cupra K1 is really a marketing thing. I suspect they found that some people were being put off the Cupra as it didn't look sporty enough compared to say the Focus ST or Astra VXR and had to release a sportier looking Cupra to compete. Simply having an optional bodykit might mean the Cupra was overlooked by potential buyers.

I kind of agree with that, but then again its just the same aero kit that is available for all models. The only difference is they have stripes and a K1 badge. I think the front grill on the Cupra could of done with being different, like the subtle red line and badge on the front of the MK5 GTI.

I think it may just be a case of SEAT needing to quickly release a more sporty looking Cupra for the U.K market at minimial cost, afterall they are actually build as standard Cupras and the parts changed as they reach the port in the U.K.

Fit a body kit already in the range add a new badge, slightly different exhuast and bingo a new model to appeal to the buyer wanting a sportier looking Cupra.

To come up with a new bodykit for the K1 would have been a lot more expensive than using one already in the range.

Is the exhaust available on other models?

My 1.6 is a full k1 look alike except the exhaust .. Cant say it has not crossed my mind too add a k1 badge but .. Who care's? Its you're car at the end of the day you can big it up all you want but you're always going too know its a 1.2 or w/e it is lol.. I went the debadge route myself.. If i somehow found a k1 badge tho.. I probably would put it on..

Just posted this in a thread about black leons with BTCC kits:

I think i seen a black leon with the BTCC in Aberdeen and it looked quite smart.

Mind you, it had confusing badges on the back...

It said "C U P R A" but there was also the "FR" logo in the FR logos usual place!

So, was it a cupra with an FR badge added, or an FR with a "leon" replaced by cupra? No idea. Unless there is an FR Cupra model?

I changed my sport bumpers to FR bumpers and fitted LCR splitter, because i liked the look,It is more powerful than a standard FR after remap but wouldn't put FR badges on it because it is not an FR.

i think thats a problem. seen it afew times where a leon has gone past with the aero kit on but still with the FR badge. seems abit pointless to only go half way?

if you tune your car upto the performance of a higher model, are you then allwoed to badge it up?

i prefer the car to be badgeless but keep the leon at the back... looks alot better IMO, but each to their own..

been doing this to all the cars i owned except for the classic mini mayfair i used to have.. that was left in its own right because it was a little legend in it self.. :)

Perfect example: I seen a BMW 3 series the other week, the guy had shades on, music pumpin, and the gangster lean, he drove past and had an M3 badge on the back,

I cringed, laugh to myself and also felt sorry for the guy.
