It seems so many places I look, whether its fifth gear or the top gear site or other car mags the people reviewing always seem so underwhelmed by the cupra. Any ideas why?

Because it's made by a German-owned company, not an actual German one like VW, BMW, Mercedes etc etc.

Plus the interior is sh1te and to a lot of people this is very important! Some people think Seat = Spanish = ****, without even bothering to find out properly for themselves.

It does however mean it's a "best kept secret" for us real enthusiasts and priced accordingly.

I thought EVO magazine quite liked their long termer?

All long term tests done by various different mags loved the cupra.

If you are for ultimate performance/bang for buck in a newish and practical package and dont care about a premium interior nothing can beat the cupra.

Because most journo's can't drive properly and were working for What Caravan six months ago?!?!?

To be honest (and I include my S3 in this), they aren't the blessed with razor sharp handling. Yes you can make them better, but most won't. They also aren't blessed with a great sense of feel or feedback.

Brilliant cars, and a well kept secret, but they will always get placed below some of the specialist tools hitting the market of late.

HERE HERE, Kept it quite we don't want to be too common like Audi, Bmw's, Merc - and the last two have a host of major electrical problems that involves Techies coming from Germany to try and sort problems out - that never seem to get aired by the motoring press either?!?. ...............................

When I first got into my Cupra I was'nt that keen on the centre dash panel, but after sitting in my brother-in-laws latest shape A6 Avant it was no different- very similar in colour & feel around the I-Drive thingi-ma-jig (Don't know what it's called in an Audi).

If it's OK for a premium car, then why not in a small car?

The only thing I could see that made it look cheap, are the hard plastic door panels- which don't exactly jump out at you.

The front seats are very nice- I love the trim, the buttons don't feel like they'll fall off overnight either.

I can't be bothered to read some of the reviews anymore as it's getting a little bit rediculous across the board.

Some of these journalists seem to be loosing touch with reality.

Slightly OT but, you only have to pick up a What Bike/MCN et all...mag & read a review where a 150bhp bike is slated for being too slow! SLOW?! Compared to what??? An F22?

Not everyone lives their life by the 1/4 mile- I am not Vin Diesel.

Some of these journalists need to get a grip on reality & owners need to stop caring what other people think & enjoy one of motorings best kept secrets!

Rant over!

completely agree with this comment. some reviews are just made up to try and make out like they know best. dont get me wrong some do but its all a drama over such trivial things. as a package the new cupra is awesome, i however am not the biggest fan of the new centre console.could've been better, but thats a very small issue.

a simple suspension upgrade would sort out many criticisms any one has with regards to how it handles .thats just my 2 pence worth.

Nothing wrong with the suspension......try a MK4 Ibiza Cupra if you want to find suspension that needs upgrading.

A review is just that, a review by an individual who has there own agenda. They dont have to like the vehicle or everything about it just write their thoughts.

Its then up to you to do your own research and make your own mind up, after all your spending the dollars on the vehicle!

I drove all of the other contenders in the crowd except the golf (dealer wouldnt let me) and decided the K1 was the one for me even though all mags were saying the new Civic Type R was the one to have.

agreed mr cellotape, but have to add. when i got the lcr, the suspension felt spot on. my mate who always buys upgraded suspension for his cars said you dont know what your missing. all of a sudden my suspension began to deteriorate due to the remap and extra bhp over standard car, to the point where it was just straight up wrong. i was always bit doubtful as to the upgrading of suspension making such a huge difference but all i can say is oh my god, night and day over even the standard suspension in good nick. atleast 30 -40 % better in every way.

as far as the ibiza goes i completely agree, few of my mates have them and on the standard suspension it was as if the car was actually in pain over every bump and ditch. defo needs upgraded setup.

the only car i have sat in that i feel is awesome in terms off ride quality and handling standard is the mk5 r32 my mate had. it was a 57 plate and was actually as if the suspension was upgraded already.

cheers for reading.

gulzar.

I made up my own mind, and I dont really care what the press or anyone else thinks about it. The Focus ST normally ends up getting appraised more highly, but it is heavier, slower, thirstier, more common, depreciates more harshly, is in a higher tax group etc etc. The Astra VXR is 2 a penny, easily broken, worse handling, has torque steer problems and has a piss poor spread of power. The GTi is as per the Leon except nice dash, hideous seats, poorer brakes, less power and bigger price tag. Edition 30 adds more power but with it comes more price. Mazda 3 MPS is boring, not tunable, boring and a bit of an old mans car. Civic Type R is slow, has no torque and looks weird and the likes of the 135i BMW and S3 are in a different class price wise.

Really, at the end of the day, people make their own minds up. Yes, the centre console looks ****, the styling may not be the best, there is no main differentiator to the Cupra over other models style wise, main dealer/manufacturer back up not as good as others, the model line up and marketing may not be brilliant, and the standard kit and options list poor, but it is a great car for the money, especially when a remap is thrown at it.

Good post sir, very well said. Also, unless things have changed since last year I feel the list of standard equipment compares well with other manufacturers.

Wow. SEAT should consider hiring you for marketing, buddy.
Well-said.
