I had a few questions about the 20VT Sport that I have owned for a few weeks. I have done some searching but not convinced with what I have found.

On cold start up the initial noise sounds like a diesel but then goes. I have seen a few threads but not sure if this is normal for the 20VT.

I sometimes notice a hesitance before 2000 revs. I’m still not sure whether its because of the peddle being close to shut off of not but its almost like touching the brakes.

Are there FAQ guides for basic tuning of the Toledo (suspension etc) and also the engine in general, I’ve had a look around and there does seem to be lack of these unless I’m looking in the wrong place. Things like what safe boost to use, preferred stage upgrades, etc.

Also is the exhaust system up to the CAT the same as the leon, I’d be surprised if not but wanted to check. I’m considering a full system but need to spend time having a gook look at options.

Diesel like sound on 1.8T is normal, was only momentary though on my ex1.8T .

exhaust blow? manifold blow?

Interesting you have said that, i did want to check the front of the system at the weekend as i thought i herd a slight blowing noise parked next to a wall. What will this cause, all of the above?

That was my reson to question the exhaust options as if its on its way out i will upgrade. I'd rather not need to just after 2 weeks though...

Manifold bolts loose, or Down Pipe loose. When the exhaust gets hot it seals it'self so you wouldn't hear the noise.

That would make sense for the hesitance i guess. What do people on here go for, a miltek etc exhaust? I did read that the bora exhasut is the same?

I know the deisel sound is definately engine related but seems to be a 1.8T trait then.

It's just for the turn over period, 1-2 seconds. I'll check the oil now, i know it was fine when i got it but still sounded like that on start up and seen no smoke nor has anyone following me since i've had it.

Hi Mate, i wouldn't worry about this, all MK4 Ibiza 20Vt's get this Diesel noise on initial turnover. However the MK3 20vt's don't; - almost sounds like they have different starter motors.

Well i checked everything at the weekend, oil is fine, the connection between the cat and mid pipe was blowing but now sorted and the exhaust looks to have a lot of life left in it.

I still get a 1.5-2K 'stall' though, i know when i used to have my 200sx that these did the same but higher up the rev range. It was the restrictions in the exhaust system that caused it.

So i guess at this point its the suspension i want to start with...

The stock downpipe is quite restrictive on 20VTs, changing this for a better flowing one would definatley increase spool time. Although i wouldn't call the stock set up laggy.

Sometimes comes down to the VVT unit, which is the timing chain tensioner, getting mine done on my S3, sounds terrible, everytime i start up and when i change gear, i have a sound that sounds like a heat shield slightly rattling, but it is the VVT unit not taking up the slack on the timing chain properly.

Mine is only for the split second on start up. It all seems ok, oil is fine, there was a slight blowing coming from the join between the cat and centre section thats been sorted.

On to suspension and wheels now although info for this is very scarce for the toledo.
