So after only having my 1.6 TDI Sport Ibiza for 3weeks.......today the engine fault light decided to start flashing at me :(

Managed to get the car home and then called out the AA and they can't fix it so it's having to go back to the dealer asap and I'm not allowed to even start the engine let alone drive anywhere....its got to be towed away. I'm quite gutted as I have only had it for exactly 3weeks.

Need to get it towed and a hire car sorted by AA as soon as possible a very big inconvenience not having a car.

Any one else something like this happen with their Mk 5 Ibiza??

Glad I went for the old 19 tdi sport, had a vw bora for 5 years with the 19tdi never let me down once, my car is now 6 monts old 7000 miles still as new, as anything new seems to suffer from problums at first,
Hope your car soon get fixed and you can start to injoy it.

Any ideas on the fault buddy?
You are gutted because you ahd it only 3 weeks...try being in my shoes, i had it a day!

This new engine is startin to sound like a bit of a nightmare :(

No news yet, quite embarrassing having your brand new car towed away by the AA. Dealership was shut today so I wont know anything until tomorrow when I call. Thats true I feel for you it only being a day like you say at least mines 3weeks! I will be so glad when I get my car back tho really missing it. Got a Ford Focus in its place and really not loving it :(

had a similar problem with my 1.4 petrol, i was driving down a dual carageway when all of a sudden i lost all power and the engine light was flashing like mad. eventually lost everything and came to a stop and got recovered. had the car less than 6 months i was ready to sell it when it was repaired!

What was wrong in the end???

lol I hate it when people never come back to tell us what fixed their car. Trouble with all these modern cars is the bloody sensors.

sorry to hear you are having problems.

re the hiring of car, im guessing AA are providing one for free?(level of membership dependent) even if it is free it will effect your premium on renewal. seat should hook you up with a cover car!

boo hiss to seat

:) I finally got my car back today, but blimey was it scary.

Suspected contaminated Diesel (dealership thought it may of been petrol but now likely not to be the case)
Dpf filter had a fault so was recoded and reset

So thankfully my car is now back and I'm so happy to have it back, glad it was only a day with a hire car as it was horrible.

I parked in town today and then my car (SC CR 1.6 Tdi) wouldn't start. Rapid clicking sound and engine symbol flashing. Tried several times with waits inbetween. Finally called Seat Assistance and that worked. Car started and I cancelled the callout. Phoned dealer who said it was strange but continue to drive.
I've had the car since 3 Oct and last Wed it lost all its coolant when a bracket holding one of the coolant pipes broke off and left a pin hole in the pipe.
First I knew was windscreen misting up (no heating) and then oil and temp warning lights coming on.
Now have noisier engine with suspected damage!! Is this my first and last Seat?

Hi, my 1.6 Ibiza is coming up on a year old and so far without problem. It is dissapointing though to read of the number of people who are having issues. Especially those with intermittant faults which are always a nightmare to track down.

Sorry to hear of your problems WhiteIbizaMan, one of the things that annoys me about Seat is they do not fit a low coolant level warning to the Ibiza, only an overheating temperature light. If it were fitted a low level light would come on long before the engine overheated and was damaged.

If you look at the coolant tank you can even see where the wiring for the low level warning would connect - as used by both VW and Audi. Its taking pennypinching too far by not wiring it up on the Ibiza[:@]

Yes I agree. Even the dealer said it needed a temp gauge.
Just washed the car and it wouldn't start. Same as before, rapid clicking sound and engine symbol flashing.
Finally got it going and put it away in the garage. Revved it a couple of times, in neutral, and it wouldn't go above 2,400rpm.
Anyone know if it's governed when in neutral? Doesn't make sense to me so I'm increasingly certain that the engine with just 1,580 on the clock is knackered.

Hi, My car has been doing the same. Trouble starting and all lights on on dash. When it starts in the 'emergency' engine programme the revs are limited to 2,400 rpm.

My fault is intermittent and the dealer does not seem to have a clue what to do (the car's been in twice already)

Thanks for these comments guys. One of you has probably given the reason for the restricted revs!
I've emailed a long whinge to my Dealer (who've been very good to date) telling them to take the car away until it's sorted and to loan me a replacement in the meantime. I quite fancy borrowing their Red Bocanegra for a week or two.

Well, after my issues with the dodgy wiring on my exhaust sensor, after work on friday the DPF warning light came on, so i planned to take it for dpf regen run that evening. I'd done about another 10-15 miles of town driving and the dpf light went off, replaced by the engine warning light and no turbo. Limped it home (luckily it was only about 3 minutes from my door that it gave up) and not touched it since

I wouldn't have thought that the dpf would get blocked enough to cause issues so quickly after tripping the first sensor asking for a regen run?

would it be worth taking it for a regen run without the turbo to see if it'll clear the dpf and reinstate the turbo (is switching the turbo off part of the limp home mode?)

Mine was a similar senario, as soon as the engine fault light came home I got it to home (luckerly I was only 1minute away) then called SEAT Assistance who got the AA out, I was advised by AA not to turn the engine on and get it towed to the dealer, they had my car for 1 day and fixed it by re-setting and re-coding the dpf computer and now I've not had any trouble since with the warning light *touch wood* :)

Well, partly sorted :) Car wouldn't start in my garage this morning just sitting there clicking away. Must have turned on and off well over 100 times in the hour waiting for AA.
He was a nice man, no a very nice man, and said that the engine was too new to be on his database. He played with Relay 11 which was the one that clicked but didn't help.

He said "I'm suspecting an earthing fault but phoned his technical help to verify. He spotted an earthing point on the nearside under the air filter. Sure enough it was very loose and he could turn the nut easily with his fingers. Tightened it up but it didn't help. He wouldn't give up and found an identical earth further down on the other side of the wiring loom. You guessed, it was also very loose. Tightened it up and bingo car started, problem solved. I guess Jose was just back from his Siesta when he forgot to tighten them up.

Drove the car to the dealer for them to investigate the original problem of diesel knock following the loss of coolant and subsequent overheating.
I'm now driving a 1.4 SE 5 door. Not bad for the size of engine but I want my seats and turbo back

Oh yes, and the prize goes to ..... mhill, the engine is limited to half revs when in neutral. AA man queried it and when I drove it to the dealers it was fine!
