Hi guys,

Some toe rags have stolen my licence plates off my car. I noticed that the front ones are smaller than teh usual plates you get at halfords etc. Can anyone let me know what size this is?

Mk1 Leon Cupra R........cheers

The front plates on the LCR are the same size as your rear plate. The legal size for UK number plates is 20.5" x 4.5" unless its a square one using stanadard size lettering i.e. Hyundai Coupe. The only exception is for Jap Imports where the plate is smaller and with smaller lettering to make it the same size as a Japanese plate & to fit the recesses made in the bumpers/bootlid by the manufacturer. If you bought your car with a smaller plate, it was probably illegal.

You can get smaller front plates from fancyplates.com or similar (3/4 size) they are illegal but you should only get a warning and rectification notice if pulled. Theory is they are harder for 'safety cameras' to read. Keep the rear plate full size so it's less obvious to any following rozzers. I don't condone any of the above obviously but every little helps ;)

This is mine had it on for over 18 months i park next to the police station never had a problem.

Fancy plates, i got mine from there, you can specify in mm the size you like, however i got pulled for mine last month after a year with a smaller one fitted and asked to sort it out.

i suspect you were pulled due to the spacing rather than the size
