Took the car in to Willoughby Seat in Chillwell this morning for an MOT and the ~100k service and picked it up this afternoon. Couple of points and some questions:

I've had an intermittent voltage error show up in VAG-COM for a while now, they think it was related to one of the battery terminals being loose. I must admit that having sheared a previous bolt when tightening it I decided to not fully tighten it, so that they would pick up on it and if it breaks, they would do it, and not me. As it turns out, they did pick up on it (which is nice) and they did tighten it. Lets see if the error comes back.

The front brake pads were replaced a couple of weeks ago and I've barely driven since, but they said the rear pads were 40% worn and the front 30%. I panicked, thinking that I'd be all the way through the pads in a couple of months but apparently 70% is just a figure they use to say that there's loads of wear left in them. Thank God!

Apparently a couple of hoses for the windscreen/rear-window nozzles were loose or had come off. They were put back on. No charge.

The coolant was apparently low. The car runs at 90°c usually, in pretty much any weather. On the way home I noticed that it wasn't going over 75°c though. Could this be a problem or is this how it's supposed to be? I know it's cold today, but it's always gone higher than that before.

As for the MOT result itself; last January it passed with advisories, but I don't know what they were because it wasn't mine at the time and I don't have any paperwork beyond the pass certificate. However, it went through with no problems at all beyond what I've put above. No advisories and it's all good. I assume the previous advisories were for the tyres or brakes, all of which have been attended to anyway.

I was glad to be able to swap the keys from the Altea I had for the day. Yuck!

All in all, happy with the service. The price was reasonable considering, and no surprises so it's all good.

you can check for most old mot's just look on the back of the mot certificate and there is a web address. enter some details then it will show you all past mot's that are on the system.

Nice one. I think someone did suggest that but I forgot. This is the first MOT I've ever had to go through myself. Always had new or sold before the MOT was due :D
