Ignition Issues

right noticed a problem developing with my mk2 1.8gt 16v when you go to start it turning the key all the way doesn't always fire the car you sometimes have to turn the key back around and then back again and hold it for a second until it fires what could this be please

Does it not turn over when you say fails to start?

its doesn't do anything its like you turn the key and theres nothing there but then when you try again it fires was wondering if the key ignition is worn maybe?

sorry but when i think of switch i think of light switch not what i call the ignition barrel is that what i need? and is it a diy jobbie

It all depends on your level of skill at 'DIY'

can be ok sometimes but usually envolves swearing how much for a new barrel will it mean a new key?

The only way to get a new barrel without a new key is to get seat to order you one from your chassis number if they are still making them.

probably just as easy/wise to get one from a breakers.

In fact i think you can get away with just buying a new switch and not even having a new lock barrel at all.
Item number 5, Should be about £20 i think.

is that just what i need to ask for from seat then or would europarts be better

I dont think you'll get one from euro car parts.

just an idea will try seat parts if it looks to complicated will get my mate to have a look
