Hi thinking about buying a Leon 20v T sport. 2001, 80k Fsh in good condition. I have nevered owned a leon before and was just looking for some expert advise. What are they like? Anything i should look out for? Am i correct in saying this model is essentialy the same as a cupra? Also how easy is it to get more power from it?

Thanks

Its is a Cupra but with all the options.

The Sport (circa 18k in 2001) was discontinued and the Cupra replaced it, its was a cheaper base price with options.

Same AUQ engine so everything applies.

correct me if i'm wrong but i'm 99% sure the t sport isn't the auq engine.

it has the less chippable engine with the k03 turbo instead of the k03s.....

You mean an AGU 150bhp?

As far as I know that wasnt fitted to a Leon.

AFAIK some very early leons had the K03 and not the K03s, if i was you i would look for an 01 Cupra with all the toys, Full electric leather, rain senser wipers, ESP, anti dassle rear veiw mirror, the Sport has non of these, not sure of price differences though.

my first leon was a sport, with the AUQ motor, it was a 2001 Y, lots of trick options (compared to a friends 03 car which was a cupra), the garage i bought mine from sowre blind mine was a cupra, i wasnt on this website back then so i took a gamble is suppose.

my new leon is a 51 reg "sport" with AUQ motor according to boot sticker but its got cupra badges where as my y reg didnt have cupra badges, it also had lots lots more equipment than my 01 reg car!

both great cars i do not regret buying either, my mum and dad now run the y reg car incidentally.

It probably was a Cupra seeing as it had the AUQ and toys, all the sports i have seen have been lower spec than the Cupra's no leather etc...

Whats your new Cupra got that the first one didn't?

so its a case of it all changed around 2001 and its touch and go what spec/engine you get!!!!

I think its a case of APP engine code= Sport and AUQ = Cupra, there was a lot of rebadging by the dealers though, the best way to check is the log book it will say either "Sport" or "Cupra"

If i remember correctly my book says sport, but car was badged up as a cupra. I do have AUQ engine and all the extras available (leather electric seats, ESP, auto dimm mirror, rain sensors... no cruise control though :S)

Well if it has an engine fault ... a remap isnt going to fix it. Track the engine fault down first using VAGCOM.

Might be an idea to start your own thread as well ;)

I had a 2000 Cupra (W reg), and at the same time the Sport was available without some of the Cupra equipment (electric/leather seats, rain sensing wipers, auto dipping rear view mirror - not sure about ESP) for about £1500 - £2000 less, IIRC.

I think in around 2001 they renamed the Sport version as Cupra and deleted the previous Cupra version, because my 2002 Cupra didn't have any of the items I mentioned above.

I think things are maybe confused further by imports carrying names like TopSport being rebadged as Sport or Cupra when they actually weren't either.

Some of the price guides might give more accurate model history, I suppose.

My 51 plate Cupra has electric leather seats (not memory though) and the folding mirrors - no auto-dimming mirror or rain-sensitive wipers. It also has normal TC and not ESP, and came with the AUQ lump.

Some insurance sites used to show her as being a Sport, others had her as a Cupra. Logbook says Cupra,
also only got the stealthy "20VT" badge on the back ;)

Maybe the leather was added as an option, because the standard leather the previous year had memory.

The folding mirrors seemed to disappear and reappear depending on someone's mood in the factory.....
